Kevin Conger St. Mary’s Hospital Dietary Manager will also give a presentation on portion control. All three will be available to answer individual questions after the presentations.
Becky Ewing, RN and Certified Diabetes Educator will be there to talk about the correlation between diabetes and cardio vascular disease.  “People with diabetes need to be aware of their cholesterol levels and need to live a healthy life style; if you have diabetes you are at risk of developing cardio vascular disease,” said Ewing.  The Grangeville Diabetes Support Group will combine with the Cardiac Open House for their monthly meeting.
The SMHC Cardiac Rehab program is the only one between Boise and Moscow.  They work closely with cardiologists from Heart Clinics Northwest and Spokane Cardiology.  The staff works with a variety of patients including people who’ve had a coronary artery bypass, stent placement, valve repair or replacement, stable angina or a heart attack.
“One of the important things we do for our patients is give them confidence and help them learn that they can exercise and do their normal daily living activities without fear,” said Mary Watson, RN, Cardiac Rehab Coordinator.
During the open house, Cardiac Rehab personnel will do free blood pressure checks, oxygen saturation levels, BMI calculations, finger stick blood sugar checks and will distribute handouts on Heart Healthy Habits and will also distribute coupons for free lipid panel tests.
