Girls team is first, boys second at Orofino meet
MaKayla Schaeffer won 2 events and anchored two relays to wins to lead the Prairie girls to a first place showing as a team at the Orofino Invitational Track Meet Friday, April 13.Dylon Bruegeman was all alone in first place in the 3200.
The girls had 168 points to easily beat runner-up Timberline who had 94.
Schaeffer won the long jump at 15’5” and the triple jump at 33’9”.
Other individual winners were Heidi Holubetz in the shot put at 27’3”, Taylor Heitman in the discus at 87’6” and Keely Schmidt in the high jump at 4’4”. Brandi Gehring also cleared 4’4” in the high jump but Schmidt had fewer misses as Gehring took 2nd.
The boys team placed second overall despite Dylon Bruegeman being the lone first place finisher with an 11:45 mark in the 3200. They had 137 points with host Orofino taking first with 209.
The girls 4x100 team of Schmidt, Claire Whitley, Shelby VonBargen and Schaeffer won in a time of 54.44. Another Prairie team made up of Beth Dinning, Taylor Heitman, Holubetz and Jessi Riener took third in 1:05.14.
The 4x400 team of Schmidt, Whitley, VonBargen and Sydney Glimp placed first in 4:55.79.
The medley team of Schmidt, VonBargen, Whitley and Schaeffer took first in 2:02.34.
The 4x200 team of Rachel Falzon, Glimp, Kellie Heitman and Gehring took 2nd in 2:09.34.
Other girls individual placings:
VonBargen was 2nd in the 100 in 14.14.
Gehring was 6th in the 200 in 31.46 and 4th in the 100 meter hurdles in 19.84.
Kellie Heitman was 7th in the 200 in 31.54, 10th in the 100 in 15.78 and 9th in the long jump at 10’4”.
Falzon was 6th in the 100 hurdles in 21.54, 7th in the long jump at 11’3” and 12th in the 200 in 33.66.
Glimp was 3rd in the 800 in 2:55.0 and 4th in the triple jump at 27’1½”.
Holubetz was also 3rd in the discus at 71’5”.
Riener was 2nd in the shot put at 25’4½” and 8th in the discus at 53’2”.

Dinning was 5th in the shot put at 24’9” and 7th in the discus at 58’3”.
Whitley was 3rd in the long jump at 13’6”.
For the boys the 4x100 relay team of Torin Dalgliesh, Tyler Hankerson, Cody Schumacher and Troy Lorentz placed 2nd in 49.68. There was also a throwers relay team of Garrett Schmidt, Westin Crenshaw, Kyle Uhlenkott and Derek VanderPas but no time was available.
The 4x400 team of Hankerson, Austin Sonnen, Marcus Higgins and Mason Dalgliesh was 2nd in 4:15.33.
The medley team of Mason Dalgliesh, Wise Kittihakorn, Schumacher and Dally Ratcliff was 3rd in 4:37.56.
Peter Spencer took 2nd in the 300 hurdles in 51.63, 3rd in the 1600 in 5:28.78 and tied for 8th in the long jump at 15’6”.
Bruegeman was 4th in the 1600 in 5:37.50 and third in the 300 hurdles in 53.69.
Ratcliff was 3rd in the 3200 in 13:35.0, 4th in the 300 hurdles in 57.43 and 7th in the triple jump at 30’6”.
Lorentz was 4th in the 200 in 25.57 and 5th in the high jump at 5’2”.
Higgins was 5th in the 200 in 25.75 and 4th in the triple jump at 38’0”.
Lucas Arnzen was 10th in the 10 in 12.89 and 6th in the 1600 in 6:06.0.
Kittihakorn was 12th in the 100 in 13.07 and tied for 8th in the long jump at 15’6”.
Nathan McElroy was 15th in the 100 in 13.41, 9th in the 200 in 28.66 and 4th in the 400 in 1:06.13.
Sonnen was 3rd in the 400 in 1:04.6, 8th in the 200 in 28.44 and 17th in the 100 in 13.63.
Mason Dalgliesh was 16th in the 100 in 13.62 and 10th in the long jump at 14’5”.
Schumacher placed 3rd in the shot put at 37’4”.
VanderPas was 3rd in the discus at 105’3” and 4th in the shot at 36’5”.
Schmidt was 7th in the shot at 33’8”, 8th in the discus at 81’6” and 11th in the 200 in 29.06.
Uhlenkott was 5th in the discus at 97’3” and 8th in the shot at 30’6”.
Crenshaw was 10th in the discus at 27’3” and 11th in the shot at 27’3”.
Prairie had 2 teams in the girls 4x100 relay and they were still close on the first handoff. At left Heidi Holubetz hands off to Beth Dinning and at right Keely Schmidt hands off to Claire Whitley.
