Blood drive nets 84 units
The first of October marks the beginning of the Halloween season; but, for patients undergoing treatment for cancer, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims there is something much scarier than ghosts and goblins knocking on their doors asking for treats--not having blood available when it is needed. But thanks to the many donors who came out on October 2nd to donate their blood at the Cottonwood Blood Drive there are 84 more units of blood available for those who need it.
“Once again the willingness of the community to donate not only their blood but their time is always so amazing to me,” commented Cheri Holthaus; blood drive co-chair.  “We live in a wonderful area where people truly do care about others. I want to thank all those who came out to volunteer their time; Marlene Jungert, Theresa Uptmor, Anna Gehring, Bobbie Schmidt, Audrey Uhlenkott, Doris Sonnen and Starla Schumacher.  I also want to thank the high school students who came and volunteered their time; Daun Hoene, Beka Bruner, Dylon Bruegeman,  Sydney Glimp, Tash Gimmeson, Lauren Alfrey and Whitney Sonnen.  And a special thanks to the VFW Post 491 for supplying a wonderful meal for the Red Cross workers.”
“I think we had more first timers this blood drive than any other time,” said Brenda Kaschmitter; blood drive co-chair.  “We want to thank the following for coming in and beginning what we hope is a life time habit of donating; Leah Holthaus, Sara Tacke, Lori Mader, Martina Everson, Shaney Perrin, Kim Cox and Ashley Cannon.  We also gave out several milestone awards; Mikki Bruegeman received her one gallon pin, Roger Kaschmitter and Tom Schumacher both received a two gallon pin, Andy Terhaar earned his three gallon pin and Barb Michels earned her four gallon pin.  We also had several who earned a Red Cross shirt by donating 50 times; Sheila Long, Jeanne Poxleitner, and Sharon Schaeffer.”
The next blood drive is scheduled for January 29th.  If you would like to donated and/or volunteer your time please contact Brenda Kaschmitter or Cheri Holthaus at 962-3251.
