St. Mary’s October Employee of the Month is Dan Reel; Certified Radiology and CT Technician. 
Dan has worked for SMH since September of 2007.
“Dan walks in the door each morning with a smile on his face, cup of java in his hand and an upbeat, positive attitude,” said one of his co-workers. “His willingness to accommodate others; whether it is a co-worker who needs time off, a doctor who needs extra paperwork, or a patient’s family member who needs a tissue, Dan is there. His readiness to go above and beyond his required duties without being asked while maintaining a positive outlook is always refreshing.” Dan’s many responsibilities include taking diagnostic images in both X-Ray and CT while at the same time ensuring his patient’s safety. He also assists in surgical cases and pain clinic settings with the C-arm machine and starting IV’s for CT patients. When Dan was asked what he likes best about his job he responded; “I like being able to come to work with a smile and leave with one. I also like the day to day challenges of trying to make everyone’s experience in radiology at SMH a comfortable, quick and proficient one.” Both of Dan’s parents had careers in the medical field; his mom was a Nurse and his dad was a Respiratory Therapist. According to Dan, “I had a good grip of healthcare professions and the different jobs that were out there.” In the summer of 2003 he was floating aboard a military carrier in the middle of the Persian Gulf when he realized his 4 year contract with the United States Marine Corps was coming to an end and he needed to pick a career field, and soon. When he woke up, he said to himself; “I’m going to be an X-Ray Tech, yes I could see myself doing that.” Since Dan, himself graduated from the LCSC Radiography program with an Associates of Radiographic Science degree, he gives back to the current students who rotate through SMH as a clinic site. Dan is patient and kind to the new inexperienced students and future techs. He challenges them to become the best they can be in today’s competitive job market. He sets a high standard for the students to achieve through both his example and knowledge. “I feel very honored to be chosen as Employee of the Month, but I wouldn’t feel right about it unless I took some time to describe the amazing group of people I work with in the Radiology Department at St. Mary’s,” said Dan. “I feel very fortunate to work side by side with the most competent, professional, self-reliant and hardworking individuals. Their enthusiasm for complete patient care is infectious. I strive each day to try and match their continuous commitment to challenge themselves to be better X-Ray Techs.” Dan is not just a Radiology and CT Technician; he is also a family man who enjoys spending time with his lovely wife; Darcy and beautiful baby girl; Ellie Gene. When not working at the hospital or spending time with his family Dan enjoys hunting bears with hounds, trapping and camping. Dan co-workers would like to thank him for making their work environment a great place to come to everyday. |
