Quilt donated to auction
The inmates at NICI are donating a quilt they designed and created to the St. Mary’s Hospital Mardi Gras auction.  This is through the Service Learning project which was started at NICI in January of 2012.  In addition to the quilting they also have service learning projects for recycling, math tutoring, literary tutoring, book reviews and resource manuals.
Each project has to be self-sufficient; through donations they are able to keep the programs running.  The quilting project is always in need of material (jeans, shirts, sheets) and cotton quilting thread.  Other items such as seam rippers, cutting wheels, needles, scissor and various other sewing supplies are also in need.  If you would like to make a donation to this project please contact Emmett Wilson - NICI - 236 Radar Rd - Cottonwood, ID 83522  or call 208 962-3276.
In order for the inmates to participate in this quilting project they must work in the laundry and complete several other sewing projects; a rag doll, Christmas stocking and a baby or lap blanket. So far they have donated many quilts to various organizations; Hope Center, St. Vincent DePaul, Idaho Dept of Juvenile Justice, North Idaho Children’s Home and the YWCA.  They have also made specialty quilts for non-profits like the one they made for SMH.
In addition to this quilt there are many other items which will be auctioned off at the Mardi Gras event; hunting trip, elk feeding and hotel stay, jewelry, wine tree, beer wagon, various gift certificates and many other items.
The Mardi Gras event will be held on March 23rd at the Cottonwood Community Hall.  The evening will begin at 5:00 followed by dinner at 6:00; live music will be playing for both the social hour and dinner.   There will be silent and live auctions, casino games and dancing music; something for everyone.  Tickets are $35.00 and can be purchased at the hospital, Cottonwood Clinic or by calling Cheri Holthaus at 962-3251.Proceeds from this event will benefit the St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room Remodeling Project.
