is employee of the month
“I am nominating Tija because she is a wonderful team player and treats our patients like family. She is dependable and proactive,” these were just a couple of the comments on the nomination form which a co-worker turned in for Tija. After reading the nomination form the Customer Service committee didn’t take long to decide on naming Tija LaRue as the April Employee of the Month for St. Mary’s Hospital.
Tija LaRue is a Certified Nursing Assistant and has been working for SMH since 2008. She started in the Environmental Services department and transferred to the nursing department after she completed her CNA course at LCSC.
As a CNA some of Tija’s duties include taking patient’s vitals, keeping all areas on the nursing floor clean and stocked, assisting with newborn care as well as assisting with the general care of all the patients.
When asked why she wanted to become a CNA and what she likes about her job she commented, “I wanted to be helpful to our patients and my co-workers. I love to make patients laugh and to think lighter of their situation.” Tija also commented, “We have an awesome CNA crew on the floor right now; we all work well together as a team.”
“When housekeeping was in a bind she stepped up and helped cover our missing staff so that our facility was kept clean, this was much appreciated” commented Diana Sisk, RN. “As a nurse, I trust her; I know she does the work and keeps me informed of any concerns she has for the patient she cares. Tija is an asset to our facility.”
“I can remember walking down the hall one day and I noticed Tija sitting by a patient’s bed, she was holding and patting the patient’s hand and talking softly to him,” said another co-worker. “It was one of the most heartwarming moments I ever experienced; I can remember thinking she truly is one of our employees who cares about our patients.”
When not at SMH caring for patients Tija enjoys sewing, painting and doing crafts.
Tija and her husband, Chance live in Cottonwood; she has two daughters and one grandson.
