Summit grad killed in crash
A single vehicle crash on Grangeville-Salmon Road that was called in at 1:11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 claimed the lives of three young Grangeville people including a recent graduate of Summit Academy.
James K. McColloch, 17, was driving a 2003 Ford F250 pickup with passengers Justin R. Dempsey, 18, and Lelah E. Layman, 17, all of Grangeville. While traveling northbound and negotiating a curve the driver lost control and went off the east side of the road, got back on the road then went off the west side, striking a tree according to the Idaho State Police report. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and all three occupants died at the scene.
Dempsey was a member of the class of 2013 at Summit Academy in Cottonwood.
