Nezperce Garden Club names Good Neighbor Award winners in Ferdinand
This contest recognizes home and business gardens as they add special beauty to our communities.  The winners receive a certificate suitable for framing from the Nezperce Garden Club, signed by the Garden Clubs of Idaho State President and the Nezperce Garden Club President. A sign for either floral or vegetable garden is placed in the winning gardens.   The winning gardens will also be featured in the 2014 Nezperce Garden Club Calendar. The winners of the second annual Good Neighbor Award Contest are Neil and Mary Ousnamer for their flower garden and Mick Forsman for his vegetable garden.
Today we honor Neil and Mary Ousnamer for creating a garden filled with vibrant colors throughout their yard.   Neil did a wonderful of job of building an inviting little nook where family and friends can come to relax and enjoy the nautical themed patio while Neil barbecues a delicious meal. Neal also built a breathtaking swooped half-fence at the front walk way where they planted two lovely shade gardens.  They created an elegant and old time feeling effect with potted plants placed on the porch that wraps around their house.    Congratulations Neil and Mary Ousnamer and thank you for sharing your lovely garden with us.
We also honor Mick Forsman for his vegetable garden with a large variety of nice looking vegetables like beans, beets, cabbage, carrots, corn, onions, garlic, peppers, potatoes and spinach.   I can see Mick’s wife, Judy is going to be doing a lot of canning and pickling.
Honorable mention goes to Teresa Bryant for her flower garden.   Teresa has put a lot of work into her garden art with lovely ceramic and wood carved animals throughout her yard.
This year eleven year old Carson Forsman’s vegetable garden was entered into the contest in the junior division.  Carson has been working hard growing carrots, corn, lettuce, peas, potatoes, radish, rhubarb and squash.   He is also trying his hand at an herb garden.  Great job Carson!  Carson received a certificate from the Nezperce Garden Club and a wooden coin redeemable for an ice cream cone at the Hang Out in Cottonwood.   We hope that more kids participate next year because the kids are the growers of tomorrow so take time to teach the kids today!
Good Luck next year!
