Memorial Fund meeting held
The annual meeting of the Sister Martina Gehring Memorial Fund board of directors was held July 16 at the Monastery of St. Gertrude.
Members present were Carol Lauer, Ellen VonBargen, Pat Gehring and Denise Poxleitner. Also present were Sister Teresa Jackson and Janis Lance from the Monastery.
Martina Gehring was a Benedictine sister at the Monastery of St. Gertrude who served as an educator and an administrator of St. Benedict’s Family Medical Center in Jerome. After she was killed in a car accident on June 21, 1987, her family established a fund to honor her memory supporting causes that were important to her.
In the years since the fund has been established more than $20,000 has been used to support the pregnancy counseling centers in Grangeville and Lewiston, continuing education for the sisters at the monastery and the promotion of vocations. This year $4,400 was distributed.
Contributions can be made to the fund through donations, gifts, memorials and wills. The members meet once a year to discuss the distribution of the funds.
