October Youth Ministry schedule
Dear Youth,
As the days grow shorter and the leaves begin to speak their change of color we start to see and feel a difference around us.  It is in this spirit of change that we invite the youth of our parishes and communities into the dance of transformation through engaging in the opportunities in our October youth ministry process.  It’s only through an open response that change can come about.
Oct 4th brings with a change to spend some quiet and meaningful time with the Lord.  All Jr. High and High School youth are invited to St.Mary’s Church for Adoration, beginning at 10:00 p.m.  The time spent with the Lord is the best time you will ever spend!
On Oct 6th the Haiti 20016 team will be hosting our annual family “Pig Out” dinner, silent auction, and dance at Keuterville Hall.  Please look in the church bulletin, Cottonwood Chronicle, and posters around town for more info.  We hope to see you at this foot stomping, yummy and fun event.
On Oct. 7th we will begin our study on the Second Book of Samuel.  The small group Bible Study will begin in Debbie’s office @ 6:30 with pizza, the study will go from 7:00-8:00 and will end with a walk, weather permitting.  All interested High School youth are invited!
On Oct 9th the peer ministers only are asked to meet @ the OMG @ 7:00 p.m. to plan the REACH session for the end of Oct. Your presence and participation are essential to this planning.  I appreciate all that you do to bring God’s faith to your peers and Jr. High youth.
On Oct 12th and 13th the High School youth will be participating in a 30 hour fast to raise money for Catholic Relief Services and World Vision.  The cost to participate in this event is $30.00.  If you would like to sponsor a youth for fasting you may put $30.00 in an envelope marked “Thirty Hour Fast” and put it in the collection.  We will use it for the cost of the fast and what is left over will go toward CRS and World Vision. We will also be taking donations after each of the Masses on Oct 12th and 13th .  Thank you ahead of time for supporting our youth and helping the less fortunate of the world.  Your donations truly speak the love of your hearts.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!
On Oct 16th all Jr. High and High School youth are invited to help with roadside clean up at 3:30 p.m.   We will meet in Debbie’s office for a brief information session and then head out to highway 95 for clean up.  Any adults interested in helping are also invited.  We will go to Subway following the clean up and then head to the OMG for a movie.  Please remember to bring gloves for cleanup.  (If the weather is bad we will reschedule the clean-up but will still have the movie at 7:00 p.m.).
On Oct 19th all youth who will be confirmed in the Spring are asked to attend a retreat in the Ferdinand hall from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The retreat will be followed by a Mass with a Blessing Rite.  A dinner for the community will follow the Mass and everyone is invited.
On Oct. 20th many of our parishioners will be attending a Youth Ministry training session in Lapwai from 10:00 to 4:00.  Please pray for us as we work together to grow more young disciples in our parishes and communities.
The High School peer minister will be hosting our first REACH session for the Jr. High and High School youth on Oct 23rd.  All Jr.High and High School youth are invited.  We will begin at 6:30 with praise and worship and will follow with faith, food, and fellowship.
On Oct 28th we will meet in Debbie’s office for our small group “Catholic Q and A” session.  We will begin with pizza at 6:30, the study will go from 7:00 to 8:00 and weather permitting we will go for a walk.
I will be at a Spiritual Direction Retreat from Oct. 29th to Nov.,a time to replenish, renew, and unwind. (I think after looking at this months activities that this may be a perfect time for a retreat!)
A decision to step toward the unknown often brings about transformation.  It is through engaging with an open heart that God speaks newness.  What will he say to you this month as you participate in our many opportunities of faith?
With Christ’s transforming Spirit,
Debbie Chicane
