Youth Ministry schedule for December
“Oh Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord”.  The month of December brings with it the invitation for, anticipation, joy, and celebration as we prepare for and rejoice in the birth of our Savior.  We, as a gathering of young people join in this special season of hope through the activities of decorating, praying, singing, playing, serving, and learning. Please know all of you, young and old are invited to join us on our December journey as we seek out the Christ child and celebrate the reason for the season, a baby in a manger.
The Confirmation youth will begin their journey of service on Dec. 1st by putting up Christmas lights throughout the community.  We will meet in St. Mary’s Church parking lot at 7:00 p.m. to begin our adventure of Christian service.  All Confirmation youth are asked to be present.  Any other youth or adult who is interested in helping with this service project are invited to join us.
On Wednesday, Dec. 4th the High School youth are invited to the OMG youth room at 7:00 p.m. to help address Christmas cards for our college students.  We will have hot chocolate and cookies for all you wonderful elves!  This is always a great opportunity to show our love and appreciation to our young adults as they prepare for their mid term exams.
On Dec. 6th the Haiti mission team will be serving at the Ryan Uhlenkott Christmas dinner.  Please mark your calendars for this special service opportunity.
On Dec. 10th St. Mary’s is hosting the North Central Deanery meeting for the priests and youth ministers.  Please pray for us as we gather to discuss, share, and pray for our communities.
On Dec. 11th the youth, Jr. High and High School will meet at the OMG youth room for a Christmas movie.  We will have an ugly Christmas sweater contest too.  “Tis the season for greatness”! (Popcorn and pop for snacks)
On Dec. 17th we will meet at the OMG from 3:00 to 5:00 for Christmas baking.  All High School youth are invited to attend.
On Dec. 18th the High School youth will meet at the OMG youth room for caroling.  We will carol from 5:30 to 6:30 at the hospital and condominiums.  At 6:30 will meet back at the OMG for Chili and hot chocolate.  We will also have a white elephant gift exchange.  You are asked to bring a wrapped present for someone else.  Please note that this present can be silly, really silly, normal, or special.  It is totally up to you.  This is one of my favorite nights as we gather to share in the joy of giving.
On Dec. 20th the Haiti team will host the annual alumni game at Prairie Elementary school gym.  We will begin the women’s game at 6:30 and men’s game will follow.  We will also have free throw contests, a 3 point contest, and concessions will be served.  This is a great opportunity to gather together and have a ton of fun.  (Players registration fee taken at the door: $10.00 and there will also be spectator fee) All proceeds will go toward our 2016 Haiti Mission Trip.
On Dec. 21stthe Confirmation youth and any other High School youth will meet at the Cottonwood City Maintenance Shed at 10:00 a.m. to decorate for the light parade. (I have not confirmed yet with Roy about the location but we have met there for the past 2 years and I am assuming we will be able to do it again.. thanks Roy).  Watch the bulletin for more details.
On Dec. 22nd all youth who will be riding on the float in the light parade will meet in Debbie’s office at 3:00 p.m. to get dressed for the light parade. After the parade we will meet back at the city shed to take the decorations off the float.  We will have food and drinks available for all of the wonderful helpers.
There are no scheduled youth events from Dec. 23rd to Dec. 31st.   A season to stop, see, and rejoice in that is before us;   community, love, charity, faith, joy, and heart that beats for others… that’s Christmas fully alive!  Merry Christmas everyone and may Christ be present in all that you do!
In the Spirit of the Season,
Debbie
