Next Tuesday, April 29, Father Paul Wander will celebrate Mass that evening at 06:30pm. Directly after Mass Catholicism 101 meets in the back of St. Mary's Church in Cottonwood. He tries to celebrate Mass every Tuesday evening and Catholicism 101 tries to meet every other Tuesday Evening. The meetings are open to everyone. This is an informal way of learning a little bit more about the Catholic faith. The topics vary as they are determined from questions people have asked at a prior meeting. Some prior topics have been; Why do Catholics pray to Saints?, Why are Angels important to us?, Are miracles only performed by Catholics?. A person from our community leads the discussion. This week our guest speaker is Jim Hickel. His topic is reconciliation. Why does the Church have private confession and communal penance services? Why do we confess to a priest? Jim Hickel has spent most of his life in Catholic education so addressing some of these questions is what he does best. Jim was born and raised in Anchorage Alaska. While in Alaska he helped co-found a small Catholic school. He earned his BS in teaching at Magdalen College in New Hampshire, and after spending thirteen years as the headmaster of that small Catholic school he earned his Masters at Texas A&M. Hickel, his wife Lisa and their two grandchildren, (Caleb and Alexis), are fairly new to our area. Before becoming Summit Academy's principal they spent two years at a small Catholic school in Scottsdale Arizona. They have always lived in Cities so the move to Cottonwood was a leap of faith. Their entire family are enjoying the rural life of the Camas Prairie very much. Join us in showing Jim Hickel some small town hospitality by joining him in CATHOLICISM 101, Tuesday evening. There will be refreshments and a lively discussion in back of St Mary's Catholic church following 6:30 pm Mass |
