Library News
Just over seven (7) weeks until the annual Library Bräts and Brew fest.  The Library board is busy soliciting donations along with the numerous other things that need attention.  Anyone with donations for the silent or live auction may drop them off at the library or call a board member to have it picked up.  One special item for this year is a very unique clock designed and created by the late Ernie Jennings.  Ernie was a great supporter of the library both in donations and as a patron.  We miss his weekly visits and will miss his yearly contribution to the B&B auction.
Another good support to the library is NICI.  They have been great help with setting up for the event as well as helping with the clean up.  They have also been very generous with their hand made quilts and have generously donated each year toward the auction. This year is no exception, so to recognize their ongoing support, the library is featuring a variety of quilts displayed this month on "the wall" that usually displays drawings, photos etc.
Drop in and enjoy the talents of  these young men. The Library Board appreciate and commended them for the fantastic job they are doing.
The following article was submitted along with the quilt display and is worth sharing with this community.

In the fall of 2011 the Robert Janss School at the North Idaho Correctional Institution started service learning projects under the direction and watchful eye of Wendy Kaschmitter. Kaschmitter had over site of the projects until she switched jobs to become a case manager.  One of the service learning projects was tied into the laundry operations of the institution where the offenders learned to make quilts.
From making quilts to making stuffed dolls, dinosaurs, Christmas stockings, and pillows, the offenders have made and given away over 400 items to date. Specialty quilts designed for various not for profit groups, to be used for auctions, drawing or raffles,  include St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, Relay for Life, Grangeville Food Bank / Community Garden, Prairie Community Library, Assumption Parish, AmeriCorps, Lewis-Clark State College and PHS Drug Free Senior Class.  Homeless families and families in need have received quilts and dolls.
St. Vincent DePaul – Moscow and Clarkston, Hope Center – Moscow, NICI Project Compassion, Idaho Veteran’s Home – Lewiston, Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections – Lewiston, Idaho Correctional Education, Idaho Professional Technical Education, Disabled Veteran Group – Cd’A, Disability Action, YWCA – Lewiston, IdaLew Career Day, Personal Violence Task  Force – Grangeville, Idaho School Board Association, Grangeville Convalescent Center, St Gertrude’s Monastery and Cottonwood Shelter Home are among other groups and organization that have benefited from the project.
Baby quilts, lap quilts, twin quilts, and full size quilts number 266 that have been given away along with 45 stockings, 49 dolls and 49 pillows and other items. Emmett Wilson the current project lead says all of this was accomplished because of the generous donations of blue jeans, fabric, thread, sewing machines and other supplies by the public.
