84 donate at blood drive
“We almost made our goal this time,” commented Brenda Kaschmitter, blood drive co-chair.  “We had 84 donors through the door and had 73usable units, our goal is 75.  Hopefully we will be able to hit our goal at our next blood drive in January.”
“Once again a big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers; without them this blood drive would not be possible; Doris Sonnen, Marlene Jungert, Judy Forsman, Theresa Uptmor, Bobbie Schmidt, Carol Lauer, VFW Post 491, and the volunteers from Prairie High School; Rhett Schlader, Isaiah Shears, Madison Ulmer, Ryan Glimp, Stellina Laurino and Lauren Alfrey,” said Cheri Holthaus, blood drive co-chair.“The volunteer duties include, making lunch for the Red Cross workers, escorting donors, checking in donors and offering maple bars and juice. We have some of the best volunteers around.” said Holthaus.
“We would like to acknowledge our two first time donors; Deserae Anderson, Megan Seubert, Jessica Kuther, Austin Sonnen and Lauren Alfrey, we are hoping they will become life-long donors no matter where they live,” said Holthaus.
Along with the first time donors there were several who received milestone pins.  Kim Bixby and Whitney Sonnen received a 1 gallon pin;Donna Wassmuth and Mikki Bruegeman both received their 2 gallon pins and Linda Nida received her 7 gallon pin; a very special thank you to all of these folks for their continued dedication to the Red Cross.
Co-chairs; Brenda and Cheri would also like thank the employees of St. Mary’s Hospital for their wonderful support of the blood drive by coming in and donating.  The hospital also purchases the maple bars the donors enjoy after giving blood.
The next blood drive will be held on January 6th; if you would like to make an appointment to give that day please contact Brenda or Cheri at 962-3251.
