From the Police Chief
Heard of a new scam yesterday.  Someone called saying they were from Idaho Power and were sending an employee over to shut off a guys power, stating they had sent a bill ten days prior, and needed payment to prevent the power from being shut off.
The citizen explained that was impossible, as he had Avista.  Caller was adamant, even to the point of saying they had several customers in Cottonwood.  Citizen hung up on them.
Avista is the power provider for Cottonwood.
Had another lady call me, seems her elderly parents are getting numerous calls regarding lottery winning scam.  They are demanding money up front so they can deliver her winnings.  As I've informed her, it is illegal for any lottery winning to demand payment up front.
So, we can add this to the grandparents scam, the IRS scam, the ISP scam, the lottery scam, and many others.
