Brett Uhlenkott named Father of the Year
Brett Uhlenkott was named Father of the Year at the Prairie League’s Daddy Date Night. Following is the essay written by his daughter Abbie that won him the honor:
Dad,
I could never thank you enough for the part you have played in my life. You have always been there with me through everything. You are the guy who tucked me in every single night, and never let me go to sleep with without knowing how much you loved me. You are also the guy who taught me how to drive a manual, ride horses, play cribbage and throw a softball. All of which are memories I will cherish forever. However, you are much more than that, dad. You made me who I am today. You taught me how to be tough and determined. You never let me quit. When life knocked me down, you pushed me to always get back up and shake it off. You never ever gave up on me, because of this I will never give up on myself. You taught me to have faith in the things to come. You always said that as long as I did my best everything would fall into place. With hard work and God on my side I could never fail. You taught me to have courage, to always stand up for what was right. No matter what the consequences. All the while respecting others opinions and beliefs. You made me understand what it means to put myslef in other peoples shoes, and to help the less fortunate. Finally you taught me to put my heart and soul into everything I do. To never do something half way. To give 110% all day everyday. Because nothing is worth doing if you do not do it right, and nothing is worth having if you did not earn it. Dad, words can not describe the impact you have had on my life, and no plaque will do you justice. Just know that to me you are hands-down, father of the year, every year. I am so thankful to have you as a dad, I love you!
