Pirates split final 2 games at Coeur d'Alene
The Prairie boys basketball team finished up the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational basketball tournament by splitting the last two games, losing to Ridgeview of Redmond, Oregon 54-57 and then beating GP Vanier of Courtenay, British Columbia, 62-45.
Vs. Ridgeview
The game against Ridgeview, which made it to the Oregon state quarterfinals last year, was played Tuesday, Dec. 30 at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.
Prairie trailed 16-18 at the end of a quarter of play but took a lead at the half of 31-26.Jake Bruner is able to get past a Wilson defender as he looks to shoot at the Coeur d’Alene Tournament.
Ridgeview came out strong in the third quarter to tie the game at 39-39 heading into the fourth.
Ridgeview led late but Prairie had their chance to win. A defensive rebound led to a 3-pointer by Jake Bruner that got Prairie within 2 at 54-56. Ridgeview then made 1 of 2 at the free throw line and Prairie had a good look on a 3-pointer at the buzzer but it wouldn’t drop.
Rhett Schlader and Bruner each scored 17 for the Pirates while Lucas Arnzen bounced back from a touch game on Monday with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Bruner had 3 steals while Schlader had 7 assists.
Tanner Ross added 4 points while Terran Peery scored 2.
Ridgeview had 5 players score at least 7 points with their 6’8” center, Garrett Albrecht leading the way with 16 point.

Vs. GP Vanier
Prairie was able to finish the tournament with a win over GP Vanier on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Prairie jumped out on top 20-10 after the first quarter and led 37-12 at halftime.
The second half saw them getting the bench a lot of playing time as Vanier outscored them 13-15 in the third and 12-18 in the fourth but never really threatened to get back into the game.
Arnzen scored 16 points to lead Prairie in scoring and had 10 steals on defense as Prairie’s press forced a lot of Vanier turnovers.
Bruner had 14 points and 7 assists while Schlader scored 13. Ross scored 7, Peery 5, Brandon Higgins 3, Mager 2 and Bryson Higgins 1.
Prairie is now 6-2 on the season.
Prairie’s opening round opponent, Wilson of Tacoma, went on to beat Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls to win the tournament. Ridgeview beat Mountain View of Meridian in the 5th place game. Lapwai, which drew Mountain View in their opener and won, went on to lost by 56 to Post Falls and by 13 to Coeur d’Alene.
