Rocks group donates blankets and books for newborns
When parents come to St. Mary’s Hospital to have their newborn they will be treated to a blanket and book as a gift. The blankets and books are a gift from the Kindness Rocks Group from Prairie Elementary School. Five brave moms took on this sewing project with the students. Halle Klapprich and Chloe Rowland also helped guide their fellow students in sewing a blanket. 21 blankets were sewn and for many students it was new experience. Thank you to Tara Ross, Tara Klapprich, Samantha Lustig, Cara Duman, and Summer Tran for your expertise in guiding the students. The Kindness Rocks group does a monthly service project as well as learning a new character trait. The group members are 4th-5th-and 6th graders. The officers and two members delivered the blankets to Nursing Director Kathy Seubert and Nurse Diana Holubetz Believe it or not, by the time babies reach their first birthday they will have learned all the sounds needed to speak their native language. The more stories you read aloud, the more words the child will be exposed to and the better they will be able to talk. When a student reads 20 minutes each day from Kindergarten to sixth grade they will have read 1,800,000 words per year. This is equivalent to 60 school days! What a wonderful gift parents can give their children…the gift of reading.
