Chapman to judge art show
The Central Idaho Art Association (CIAA) 48thSpring Art Show : Thursday—April 30 (9:00am – 5:00pm), Friday—May 1 (9:00am – 7pm), and Saturday—May 2 (10:00am 4:00pm) at the Bicentennial Historical Museum located at 305 N College, Grangeville, lower level gallery.
The show will be judged by Shane Chapman. Mr. Chapman is the art instructor at Prairie Middle and Prairie High Schools. He has been a life-long creator of art. He remembers being inspired by a painting class instructor who encouraged him and ultimately changed the direction of his career. The instructor’s name was Steve Heckman; Heckman became a close friend and mentor to Mr. Chapman. Chapman said he was fortunate enough to have many instructors who appreciated his preference for realism and who helped him to develop a style inspired by artists he admired. These admired artists included Andrew Wyeth, J.W. Waterhouse, N.C. Wyeth, Chuck Close, and Thomas Eakins. Drawing and painting are Chapman’s favorite mediums, he notes that his favorite subjects are people, although he enjoys creating landscapes and still life subjects. He says he tends to work in a realistic style, but that capturing every detail is not as important as trying to capture the feeling the subject gives him. Art and inspiration are central to Chapman—Cottonwood’s art instructor—as he noted, “The most important aspect of art to me is my career as a teacher. Nine years ago I made the decision to change jobs and pursue a career in education. I cannot express how magical the teaching experience is. Passing on my knowledge and seeing my students develop their artistic skills and vision is amazing and rewarding. I have been fortunate to have many incredible students and it has been wonderful to see so many of them go on to pursue art degrees and careers.”
The Spring Art Show will include a special Friday evening Soiree from 5:00 to 7:00pm with complimentary wine and cheese and musical accompaniment by artist Rick Weholt.
