Seubert killed in car accident
Cottonwood businessman Joe Seubert, 55, was killed in a car accident on Spalding Bridge near Lapwai Sunday, April 19. Seubert, owner of Seubert’s Insurance and the Cottonwood Liquor Store, was driving southbound on Highway 95 at 5:47 p.m. Sunday afternoon with his wife Angela in a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo when a 35-year-old Lapwai woman, who was allegedly driving under the influence crossed the center line on US 95 at Spalding Bridge and struck the Seubert car. Joe Seubert died at the scene while his wife Angela was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where she was treated for a cracked rib and released on Monday. Dorika Powaukee was taken into custody after being treated at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. She is being held at the Nez Perce County Adult Detention Center on charges of Vehicular Manslaughter, Felony Injury to a Child, and Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. She faced those charges in Lewiston’s 2nd District Court Monday, April 20. She is in they Nez Perce County Jail on a $200,000 bond. According to the Idaho State Police, Powaukee was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger northbound when she collided with the Seuberts. In addition, her 2-year old niece, Chyle L. Powaukee, who was in Powaukee's pickup was treated at the hospital as well for an ear injury and was later released. Powaukee has two prior DUI convictions in the past 7 years, once in 2008 and again in 2012. US 95 was blocked for approximately three hours. The investigation continues by the Idaho State Police. Assisting agencies included the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office, Nez Perce Tribal Police, Idaho Transportation Department, Lewiston Fire Department, and Nez Perce County Rural Fire Department. The rosary will be at 12:30 p.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 1 p.m. |
