The May Employee of the Month for St. Mary’s Hospital is Steve Wilson; Certified Radiology and 
CT Technician and Radiology Manager. Steve has worked for SMH since
1993. He began by just taking call and then in 1998 he became a full-time
employee.
“Steve is very friendly towards our patients and their families,” said one of his co-workers. “In addition to his daily responsibilities he sits on multiple committees in order to help keep the process for the patients running as smoothly as possible. Steve is also willing to share his skills through education; as there are always students working in our radiology department for educational training. Steve goes the extra mile for his co-workers by working extra days in order for them to take time off.” Steve’s many responsibilities include taking diagnostic images in both X-Ray and CT while at the same time managing the department. When Steve was asked what he likes best about his job he responded; “I like the variety; seeing different things every day and of course I like the people I work with.” “I took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test when I joined the Air Force,” said Steve. “And the test determined I was qualified to receive training in radiology, so basically they picked my career for me; which was back in 1992.” When Steve is not taking X-rays or CAT scans he spends a lot of his time coaching. He has helped coach the Prairie High School Softball team since 2002; and was instrumental in the team going to state 13 years and receiving 5 state titles. He has also coached high school girls basketball with one trip to state, and coached both boys and girls 8th grade basketball. Steve also enjoys doing yard work, swimming and spending time with his family; wife, Verla; son, Willie; step-daughter, Alena and her husband, Dillon and his step-son, Christopher. |
