Quilts of Valor to be displayed at Raspberry Festival
“The greatest heroes of America are the veterans that willingly serve our country.  For those who fight for it, freedom has a special flavor that the protected will never know.”  — U.S. Marine LCpl Edwin L. Craft
A group of women from the Cottonwood area create quilts to honor the men and women who have served our country. These quilts, known as the Quilts of Valor, are given to local veterans across the Camas Prairie as a way to say thank you for their service. Many will be on display at Raspberry Festival this Sunday.
Since the beginning of the year, the quilters have presented 24 quilts and are currently working on many more to be presented on Veterans Day, November 11. “The experience of making these quilts is heart-warming,” says Shirley Baerlocher, one of the quilters. “I am touched by the look of pride on the veterans’ faces.”  For the veterans, receiving the quilts provides an opportunity to share with their families in greater depth about their service to our country.
“The pride, encouragement and kindness of the communities have been inspiring,” adds Shirley.  All quilts are made through donated time and supplies of many organizations and individuals from surrounding communities. To learn more about supporting Quilts of Valor, please contact Shirley Baerlocher at (208)962-3107. Donations are appreciated and regularly needed.
Visit the Quilts of Valor at Raspberry Festival this Sunday, August 2, from 9am to 3pm, 465 Keuterville Road, Cottonwood, Idaho. To learn more about the festival, visit www.MyRaspberryFestival.org or call 208-962-5063.
