Idaho County Free Press Candidates for royalty are Katrina Frei, Rachel Kelley and Abigail Stowell of Grangeville, Davi Murphy and Hailey Williams of Kooskia, and Kortney Sims of Elk City. “My plans after high school include studying abroad somewhere in Africa and taking in the culture there,” she said. She is the daughter of Steve and Kristie Frei of Grangeville and is a junior at Grangeville High School. She has four brothers and one sister and is a lifelong Idaho County resident. Frei is active in volleyball, basketball, tennis, youth legislature, student council, Family Career and Community Leaders of America and Catholic youth group. She is involved in 4-H and has taken lamb projects for seven years. She also took two pig projects, a rabbit one year and participated in Making the Most of Me for two years. Frei works in the kitchen at Snowhaven in the winter and babysits during the school year and summer. Her hobbies include drawing, fishing, rafting, hiking, playing piano and spending time with family and friends. Following high school graduation, Kelley hopes to attend Washington State University or Montana State University and study to become a veterinarian. She describes her best qualities as getting along easily with others, having a good sense of humor and the ability to make others feel at ease. Kelley has one brother whom she considers one of her best friend. “Drew is a nuclear engineer in the United States Navy. He has always been there for me and always encourages me to do my best,” she said. “He gives smart advice, is a good listener and reminds me, ‘you get what you give in this life.’” Kelley is involved in Triple Bar Drill Team, FCCLA, volleyball, basketball, honor roll, band and youth government. She has participated in student council and Heath Occupations Student Association. She previously served as Triple Bar Drill Team and Winchester Rodeo queens. She has been involved in Rough Riders 4-H Club for eight years and has participated in horse projects, Know Your Government, cooking and Making the Most of Me. Kelley has babysat and worked in concessions. She enjoys camping, vacationing with her family, riding horses and sports. “The most important things in my life are my faith and family. You are only given one family. It’s important to spend as much time with them as you can,” she said. “In a family of seven there is definitely never a quiet moment.” Stowell has been involved in 4-H for 11 years, the past three-and-one-half since she moved to Grangeville. She has taken projects in horse, llama, shooting sports, food preservation, scrapbooking, chickens and more. She participates in Grangeville High School volleyball and basketball and is also involved in youth group. Stowell describes her best trait as determination. She plans to attend college and her life goals include going on a mission trip, having a family and teaching them to love the Lord, and going to Japan as an intern. Hobbies for Stowell include being with friends, reading, scrapbooking, sports and cooking. She is a clerk at King’s Department Store and also nannies part-time. “I consider my strongest personality trait to be my determination,” Murphy said. “When I take on a project, I put 110 percent into it. I’m a hard worker and will make sure things run smoothly.” Following high school Murphy plans to attend college and is considering a degree in rinesiology with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. Her life goals include graduating high school with a high gpa and eventually finding a meaningful job. Murphy is involved in Kamiah-Woodland 4-H Club, basketball, volleyball, Key Club, HOSA and St. Catherine’s Catholic parish. Her hobbies include reading, writing and sports. Her past involvement at the fair includes the style show, working in the snack bar and entering 4-H and open class exhibits. Williams plans to attend BYU after high school and work toward becoming a dental hygienist. Her life goals include teaching skiing and snowboarding lessons, marrying and having children. “My family is the most important thing in my life. They are so encouraging, supportive and loving. They’ve helped shape me into the person I am,” Williams said. Williams plays volleyball for Clearwater Valley High School and is involved in youth group and volunteer activities. She enjoys swimming, snow boarding, skiing, singing, playing the piano, hunting and being with friends. She works babysitting and car detailing. At the fair, Williams has participated for five years with lamb projects, three with hog and a year with Know Your Government. She has also been involved in the Two Minutes Talent Show. Following high school Sims would like to attend Montana State University and eventually pursue a degree in audiology and speech pathology. She plans to one day have a family. She has lived in Idaho County eight years. “I believe my best quality is being optimistic,” she said. “I always try to look on the bright side of things and be happy.” Sims participates in volleyball, tennis, band, student council, youth legislature, FCCLA and Rough Riders 4-H Club. She likes to crochet, scrapbook, sew, garden and hike. She works at Elk Creek Station in Elk City and babysits. Sims has taken projects in swine, rabbit, Making the Most of Me, Know Your Government, hiking and backpacking, scrapbooking, cake decorating, photography, bike safety, entomology, origami and pottery. |
