Meet the new Bishop and Prioress
The community of the Monastery of St. Gertrude invites you to join them in a reception to meet the new bishop of our diocese, Bishop of Boise Peter F. ChristensenMost Reverend Peter F. Christensen, M.A., D.D., and the new prioress of the St. Gertrude's community, Sister Mary Forman, O.S.B., Ph.D., on Tuesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Bishop Christensen was born in Pasadena in 1952, and was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in 1985. In 2007 he was appointed Bishop of Superior, where he has served until he was appointed as Bishop of Boise on November 4 of last year.
“I promise to give you my heart, my efforts, my fervent prayers,” he told the people of Idaho at his appointment. “I look forward to all that God asks of us."
Sister Mary Forman grew up in Boise, Idaho and entered the monastery in 1973. Sister Mary's interest in monastic studies has guided much of her work, beginning with teaching Latin at the Center for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, and more recently, teaching as an Associate Professor in Monastic Studies at the School of Theology, Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. She also taught at the College of St. Benedict. She was installed as the 14th prioress of the St. Gertrude's community on June 13.
"I am looking forward to this new adventure with the community," said Sister Mary. "I see this time as a grace-filled opportunity, for us to deepen our Benedictine charism and the unfolding of our vision and mission."
All are invited to come meet the new bishop and new prioress on Tuesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. The event takes place in the Johanna Room at Spirit Center, Monastery of St. Gertrude, 465 Keuterville Road, Cottonwood, Idaho. Refreshments provided.
