VFW awards deadline is Nov. 1
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4902 is seeking students in grades 6-12 to enter the VFW national essay and speech award competition.  
Students in the Prairie, Summit Academy, and Highland school districts are eligible and all home-school students in the same districts. 6th - 8th grade students compete for a $5,000 bond at the national level by entering the Patriot's Pen Essay contest.  9th - 12th grade students compete for a $30,000 scholarship at the national level by entering the Voice of Democracy speech competition.  
Details and entry forms are available on the VFW national website: vfw.org, select Youth and Education under the Community drop-down menu.  Submissions must be received by November 1, 2015.  
Prairie and Summit students may submit entries through their school.  Highland and home-school students may mail their entries to VFW Post 4902, PO Box 371, Cottonwood, ID 83522, or hand deliver them to Rick Johnson, post quartermaster, at Prairie Computers on Main street in Cottonwood, or Joe Riener, post commander, at Riener's Grocery on King street in Cottonwood.  
All entries must be received no later than November 1st, 2015.  Good luck and thanks for participating in the VFW National Awards program!
