Several health walks planned
The Partnership for Healthy Communities, a collaboration of 5 health systems and 2 community service organizations (Clearwater Human Needs Council, Clearwater Valley Hospital & Clinics, Grangeville Human Needs Council, Idaho North Central Public Health District, Nimiipuu Health, Snake River Community Clinic, St. Mary’s Hospital & Clinics, and Syringa Hospital & Clinics), will be sponsoring seven walks up on the prairie in an effort to  promote physical activity and raise awareness about the need for movement in our lives. All walks will be marked in quarter mile increments and individuals can decide for themselves what distance they are comfortable with. The “Walk the Prairie for Health” series of events is geared to all age groups and fitness levels. Bring the whole family and the dog (on a leash) for some fun and good times.
On April 2nd, the first walk will take place at the Mouth of Grave’s Creek on the Salmon River. All walks will start at 9:00 AM, registration to begin at 8:30. The remaining walks will take place every Saturday morning until our final walk on May 21st on the grounds at the Monastery of St. Gertrude.  The only week a walk will not be held during that timeframe will be April 23rd .  On April 9th we will walk in Ferdinand, the 16th will be a tour of Greencreek, the 30th we’ll enjoy a day at Winchester, May 7th will be in Cottonwood with the assistance of the Cottonwood track team, May 14th will be in Keuterville stepping off from the Pub and Grub, and the final walk on May 21st will be at the Monastery of St. Gertrude.
For each walk attended the participant can put in a ticket to win a Fitbit HR on the day of the final walk. Drawing results will be final. There is no charge to participate in the walks so bring your walking shoes, a sunhat, and a desire to get out and move. Onsite at each walk the Cottonwood CRV (Community Response Vehicle-see story on page 1) will be there for safety and support. Also available will be FREE health screenings for chronic disease performed by the Partnership for Healthy Communities.
