'Run Around the World' to benefit track project
Join in the action this summer and help out a good cause. The Cottonwood School District is sponsoring a summer challenge to walk/jog/run around the world. The goal is to complete a total of 24,900 miles of exercise throughout the summer to promote health and wellness throughout the community.
Each contestant or group will take on the challenge to exercise and log their miles of activity from June 13-Aug. 20. “This challenge will also double as a fundraiser to raise funds to help finish our track paving project,” says Ryan Hasselstrom, Prairie High School track coach.“We are asking each entrant to receive pledges for each mile they complete. We’re encouraging experienced runners to try and log 100 miles for this great cause! But, any runner/walker/jogger of any fitness level is encouraged to log a mile amount that is appropriate for them!”
“Prairie High School and the Cottonwood School District are moving into the next phase of our track project.  Coming this summer of 2016 we will have our asphalt base constructed and ready for the all-weather rubberized surface,” explains Hasselstrom.
One of the organizations participating in this event is St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics. “St. Mary’s staff is excited to get involved with such a good cause while also promoting health and wellness in the community. It is not mandatory that our employees participate, but we are encouraging them to try the program,” says Matthew Forge, MHA, CAO, St. Mary’s Hospital.
“We realize that what we are asking for is a lot for this small community but feel that the benefits to our kids and to our community members will far outweigh the financial obligation,” says Hasselstrom.
“This is a great idea centered on getting a group of people together to accomplish something great in the name of health and wellness; while supporting a great cause. Imagine if we were able to run all the way around the world together as a community and region, and get a new track along the way that will benefit all of the Camas Prairie. It is such an exciting opportunity,” says Forge.
“The goal is to sell 1600 meters of track. 1600 donations at $125 will get us to our goal of $200,000,” says Hasselstrom. The donation levels are as follows:
Bronze ($125.00)
Can you pledge to 1 meter of track for $125?
Silver ($625.00)
Can you pledge to 5 meters of track for $625?
Gold ($1250.00 +)
Can you pledge to 10 meters of track for $1250 or more?
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated!
