Farmer's Market starting 10th season
The Grangeville Farmers' Market will be starting their tenth market season on Saturday, July 2. In celebration, the steering committee has plans to enter a float in the Border Days parade on Sunday, July 3rd, along with more celebration events to follow throughout the Market season. Gordon Talley will be performing music at the first Market. The 2016 season will run on Saturdays from July 2 through September, 9 AM at the Grangeville Pioneer Park on Main Street. The Market will also be held on Thursday evenings at 6 PM, during the Grangeville Arts music in the park. The Grub Club's second year will, also, begin on July 2, with a scavenger hunt. Children through twelve years old are invited to participate and will receive two dollar tokens to spend at the Market for edible products. The Grub Club, a free program promoting healthy living, is operating with a grant from the Grangeville Elks. The Grub Club will start at 9:30 a.m. each Saturday and kids can participate in a craft activity for 15-20 minutes while their parents shop. “Each child will receive a reusable GFM shopping bag the first time they attend, and each week they will be given two marker tokens good for $1 each to spend on fresh fruit, vegetables or plants at the market,” Ellissa Crowl, GFM President explained. Kids can spend their tokens each week or save them up to use on a different Saturday, she added. Activities will vary each week and will include programs based around growing food and staying active. Also new this season, the Market will accept take food stamps with an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). Through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program, food stamp recipients will use their EBT card to receive farmer market tokens worth twice the value. Trainings on the program will be offered, Saturday, June 25 at the Grangeville City Council Chambers in the City Hall at 10:00. Anyone interested is invited to attend the training. New vendors are welcome to apply to sell at the Market. 2016 applications and GFM Policies and Procedures handbook are available on the Grangeville Idaho Farmers Market Facebook page.
