County Dems clean highway
Sunday, June 26, Idaho County Democrats completed the semi-annual clean up of Highway 95, north of Grangeville, from milepost 241 to 243.  The group has come to call this the “Ernie Jennings Memorial Service Project.”  Ernie Jennings of Cottonwood, religiously cleaned this stretch of the highway alone until his death in 2014.  Members perform this service in memory of his commitment to the community and the environment.
The weather was gorgeous and the job was finished in two hours with 22 bags of trash collected.  Interesting items found on the roadside included two license plates, magnetic signs from local businesses, a recycling bag, squirrel tail (we left that), various bottles and cans, and for the second time in a row a pair of tightie whities.  The idea was raised for a shooting match using the collected cans as targets.  The fact was noted that there were far fewer plastic grocery bags than usual and much less Styrofoam packing peanuts.
Stephanie Berry organized the work party and Shelley Dumas hosted a brunch afterwards.  Brunch included a breakfast casserole, huckleberry coffeecake with real whipped cream, cantaloupe, coffee, mimosas, and good fellowship.  Ms. Berry has agreed to continue to organize the semi-annual event with the support of other members.
The next ICDP meeting will be July 11, at the Grangeville Senior Center on the Truck Route.  Doors will open at 6 PM and the meeting to start at 6:30.  Items on the agenda will include a recap of the State Convention, which was held in Boise, June 17 – 19.  The public is welcome.
