24 out for football
There are 24 players turned out for the Prairie football team although they have a  lot of holes to fill from the team that went 11-1 last year and lost in the state championship game.
Prairie has 4 seniors this year: Lucas Wemhoff, Tyson Schlader, Brandon Anderson and Raice Dalgliesh.
Juniors are Hunter Chaffee, Jayce Huling, Jace Perrin, Dereck Arnzen, Tucker Hibbard and Jacob Stubbers.
Sophomores are Devin Ross, Spencer Schumacher, Caleb McWilliams, Michael Schwartz and Carson Schmidt.
The biggest group on the team is the freshmen with Owen Anderson, Sam Mager, Derik Shears, Hayden Uhlenkott, Caleb McGee, Carson Forsmann, Garrett Bunce, Damian Forsmann and Reid Uptmor.
Prairie could have a great chance to nab another state berth this year which would make the first time in school history to make 4 straight state appearances.
State berths are harder to get this year though as there are just 8 teams in the tournament as opposed to 16 the last couple of years.
The White Pine League gets 3 of those 8 berths and Wallace is joining the league this year so they won’t get the automatic berth they’ve had the last several years.
Troy returns all but 1 player from last year so looks to be one of the league favorites despite having a new coach. Genesee, Potlatch and Kamiah also will have new head coaches. Lapwai has to be another league favorite after making it to the state semifinals last year.
Ryan Hasselstrom returns as head coach for the Pirates as do assistants Teel Bruner and Matt Elven.
Prairie’s first game will also be their league opener as they host Genesee on Thursday, Sept. 1. The game was moved up to Thursday because no officials were available for Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday was ruled out due to the holiday weekend plus there is a marriage that will affect those working the game.
