shot clinic set for Nezperce
Did you know that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend everyone over 6 months of age receive the flu shot? The CDC also states that if you get the flu shot you are about 60% less likely to need treatment for the flu. St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics first flu shot clinic will be held at the Nezperce Clinic on Monday, October 10th from 9AM – 3PM. “We will be billing Medicare and Medicaid, please bring your Medicare or Medicaid card with you. If you are not a Medicare or Medicaid patient the fee will be $35 at the time of the injection, and insurances will be billed after” says Shari Kuther, Director of Physician Services, SMH. “The diseases that vaccines prevent can be dangerous, or even deadly. Vaccines reduce the risk of infection by working with the body's natural defenses to help it safely develop immunity to disease,” says Kuther. “Vaccines, such as the flu shot, help develop immunity by imitating an infection, but this "imitation" infection does not cause illness. It does, however, cause the immune system to develop the same response as it does to a real infection so the body can recognize and fight the vaccine-preventable disease in the future. Sometimes, after getting a vaccine, the imitation infection can cause minor symptoms, such as fever.
