Pirates beat Troy, Asotin
The Prairie Pirates won two games this past week and had another one postponed. On Saturday, Jan. 21 they beat Troy 63-36 in a home league game. On Monday, Jan. 23 they finally got to play at Asotin and won 56-38.  This game had been postponed twice due to snow days. 
The game scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 19 at Kamiah has been postponed to Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Vs. Troy
Prairie swept the season series from Troy by starting strong and finishing strong.Patrick Chmelik gets fouled on a shot attempt at Asotin.
The Pirates jumped out to a 15-4 lead with Tyson Schlader scoring 8 of those 15 points, including both a 3-point shot for the game’s first points and an old fashioned 3-point play.
Prairie led 17-8 at the quarter break.
In the second quarter Spencer Schumacher scored 6 as Prairie built their lead to 30-12.
Over the final 2 minutes of the half Prairie’s subs got some playing time and Todd Ott scored 5 points on a steal and drive and later a putback that he converted into a 3-point play. Also Grant Gehring hit his first 3-pointer of the season as Prairie led 38-16 at the half.
Hunter Chaffee made it 41-16 with a 3-pointer to open the second half then Prairie’s offense went cold. Troy outscored the Pirates 2-8 over the next 4 minutes to cut the lead to 43-24.
Prairie struggled offensively against Troy’s zone defense so Coach Kevin Chaffee called timeout and had his charges go to a spread to see if they could force Troy out of their  zone.
The Pirates ran out most of the final 4 minutes of the quarter giving up just 2 points on a turnover as they took a 43-26 lead into the final period.
In the fourth Troy hit a pair of 3-pointers to cut the lead to 44-32 but Brandon Anderson sank a 3 and Chaffee converted a 3-point play to push the lead back to 18 at 50-32.
Patrick Chmelik answered a Troy basket with a hook shot which started him on a run where he scored 8 of Prairie’s final 13 points. Schumacher scored the other 5 as Prairie went to a big lineup where they had Chmelik, Schumacher and Schlader all on the floor at the same time. Prairie ended the game with an 11-0 run.
Chmelik wound up as the leading scorer with 15 points with Schumacher scoring 13 and Schlader 11. Chaffee added 8 with Anderson scoring 6, Ott 5, Gehring 3 and Lucas Wemhoff 2.
Prairie had a 32-22 advantage on the boards led by Chmelik with 8 and Schlader with 7.
Schlader and Wemhoff had 3 steals each while Gavin Branson had 7 assists. Chmelik had 4 blocked shots.
The Pirates were 26 for 52 from the field, 50%, and 5 for 6 at the line, 83%. Troy was 14 for 39 from the field, 36%, and 6 for 8 at the line, 75%.
Troy junior Isaac Stoner had 22 of Troy’s 36 points.
In the JV game Prairie used a hot start to build a big lead and went on to win 50-29.
The JV’s welcomed back a couple of injured players to the lineup as Dylan Schumacher and Michael Schwartz had both missed some games.
Schumacher got Prairie started with a spin move inside for a basket. Prairie went on to take an 11-0 lead as Devin Ross sank a 3 and Hayden Uhlenkott scored 2 baskets inside with Derik Shears adding another score inside.
Ross hit a couple more 3’s in the quarter as Prairie took a 21-8 lead at the quarter break.
Schumacher hit a 3 to open the second quarter scoring but the offense went cold until Ross scored a lay-up after a steal at the 2:55 mark. That made it 26-8 as Troy had yet to score in the quarter.
Troy answered with the final 7 points of the quarter to make it 26-15 at the half.
A 3-pointer by Troy to open the second half cut the lead to 8 at 26-18 but Prairie answered with a 9-2 run to push the lead back to 15. 
Prairie led 38-23 after 3 quarters.
A 7-0 run in the fourth pushed the lead to 24 at 49-25 before the Pirates had to settle for a 21 point win.
Ross scored 18 to lead the scoring with Schumacher adding 15. Uhlenkott scored 8, Shears 4, Schwartz 3 and Carson Schmidt and Taj Branson 1 each.
Prairie had a 43-25 rebounding advantaged led by Shears with 10 and Uhlenkott with 8.
Ross had 2 steals and Schumacher had 6 assists.

At Asotin
ISpencer Schumacher scores on a lay-up against Troy.n the game at Asotin on Monday Chmelik had a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Pirates to an 18-point win.
It didn’t start that well as Prairie battled turnovers and led just 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. Wemhoff came off the bench to score 4 of those 10 points.
In the second quarter Asotin shooters went ice-cold enabling Prairie to open the quarter with a 15-0 run. Schlader and Chmelik led the way in scoring with 6 and 5 points respectively in the quarter. Prairie also dominated the boards by a 16-6 mark limiting Asotin to 1 and done and also getting several second chance points on the offensive end.
Asotin finally scored with 1:19 left in the quarter and trailed 25-12 at the half. They connected on just 2 of 14 shots in the quarter.
Chaffee opened the second half scoring with a 3-pointer and Anderson followed with a basket to make it 30-12. Asotin managed to hit a few shots in the quarter but Prairie outscored the Panthers 13-10 in the quarter.
Prairie led by as many as 24 points at 54-30 in the fourth quarter. Asotin rallied a bit late to cut the final margin to 18.
In addition to Chmelik’s big numbers, Anderson was also in double figures on the scoring side with 10 points with Schlader and Wemhoff adding 8 points each. Chaffee scored 5, Schumacher 4 and Branson and Ott 3 each.
Prairie dominated on the boards by a count of 58-29. Schlader added 10 rebounds while Chaffee and Schumacher had 7 each.
Schlader also had 2 steals and 6 assists. Branson added 5 assists and Chmelik had 3 blocked shots.
Prairie was 23 for 64 from the field, 36%, and 6 of 12 at the line, 50%. Asotin was 15 for 56 from the field, 27%, and 6 for 11 at the line, 57%.
The Pirates improved to 10-2 on the season and 5-1 in league play.
Asotin won the JV game 44-41.
