Vs. Lapwai
In the return match against unbeaten Lapwai, the Pirates slowed it down and made it a much closer game.
Brandon Anderson scores one of 3 first half lay-ups that helped keep Prairie in the game against Lapwai.Prairie played a deliberate offense, passing the ball around and setting screens, looking for players to get open shots. The problem was that in 3 of the 4 quarters they struggled to connect on the open shots they got.
The first half saw several missed shots inside the lane that could have turned around a 15-22 halftime deficit. Anderson was the only Pirate that seemed able to hit a lay-up as he made 3 in the quarter for 6 points that kept Prairie within range.
Prairie connected on just 7 of 25 shots in the first half with only 2 of those attempts coming from 3-point range.
They turned it around in the third quarter but hitting 6 of 10 shots while Lapwai was unable to hit their shots.
Prairie put together a 13-1 run to start the third quarter and take a 28-23 lead. Schlader and Chmelik split the first 8 points of the quarter for Prairie as they tied the score at 23-23 on a lay-up by Schlader. Chaffee then hit a 3-pointer to give Prairie their first lead of the game at 26-23.
Spencer Schumacher followed with a lay-up that made it 28-23. Lapwai got their first basket of the quarter with 1:01 left to make it 28-25 at the end of the third.
Schumacher scored inside to open the fourth quarter and make it 30-25.
Lapwai then went to full court pressure, which forced just 2 Prairie turnovers. It was more that Prairie reverted to missing shots while Lapwai started making theirs. The Wildcats were 7 for 10 from the field in the final quarter and 5 for 6 at the line while Prairie was just 2 for 8 from the field and 6 for 6 at the line.
Included in Lapwai’s 7 baskets were a huge pair of 3’s by Payton Sobotta.  Sobotta’s first 3, from about 25 feet, tied the score at 32 and his second one, about a minute later, from almost the same spot, gave Lapwai the lead for good at 34-36.
Schumacher wound up as Prairie’s leading scorer with 9 points. Schlader scored 8, Chmelik and Anderson 6 each, Chaffee 5 and Branson 4.
Prairie had a 29-24 edge on the board with Chmelik pulling down 13 to lead the way.

Prairie was 15 for 43 from the field, 35%, and 7 for 9 at the line, 78%. Lapwai was 17 for 47 from the field, 36%, and 8 for 10 at the line, 80%.
Prairie won the JV game by a 60-51 score.
Lapwai took the early lead but a 9-0 run that turned a 9-9 tie into an 18-9 lead gave Prairie an 18-12 edge at the end of the first quarter.
Dylan Schumacher scored 8 points in the quarter, 6 of those on a pair of 3-pointers, while Shears scored 6 and Nick Mager 4.
Shears added another 9 points in the second quarter and Mager 4 as Prairie took a 38-29 lead at the half.
Lapwai closed the gap in the third quarter with a pair of 3’s by Schumacher helping Prairie hang on to the lead. They led 46-40 after 3 quarters.
A 3 by Devin Ross and a steal and lay-up by Schumacher made it 51-40 in the fourth. Prairie then made enough of their free throws down the stretch to hold off the Wildcats.
Schumacher wound up with 20 points to lead the scoring while Shears added 19. Ross scored 9 with Mager adding 8. Tanner Hibbard added 3 points and Uhlenkott 1.
Rebounding was very close with Lapwai holding a 31-32 edge. Schumacher, Ross, Schmidt and Uhlenkott each had 6 to lead the Pirates.
