From the Police Chief
Well folks, look like Spring may actually be near, we have the minute by minute weather changes from snow to rain to sun and back, and we have the assorted dogs running the streets.
So, in an effort to save everyone money for their Spring and Summer vacations, I will offer up these tips.  You cannot let your dog run loose.  Yes, that does include the 6 AM or 10 PM “potty calls” where it is so much easier to just open the door, let the pup do its business then return.  See, often times dogs are like teenagers, they don’t always do exactly what we expect them to do, and, sometimes, they may wander a bit further than we expect.  This is a cause of considerable concern for other citizens of our fine community, who don’t really like being accosted by stray dogs while on their morning or evening walks.  So, the citizens spoke to the Council who passed a law that dogs cannot be allowed to run loose.  There ya go, the people have spoken.
Another thing that the citizens wanted all those years ago was a method to ensure that dogs were disease free and under someone’s care, vs. ‘stray’ animals.  As such, they had the Council initiate a licensing process.  So, from the citizens to the Council, then to law; you must license your dog (yes, even the ‘only indoor ones’ ) every year with the City Clerk.  I’ll help everyone save more money by explaining that these dog licenses go up on April 1, so if you want the cheaper rate, run right down and get with our gracious City Clerk and let’s get it take care of.
Folks, I am hoping everyone took these gentle reminders in the amusing way it was meant to be presented, but, please do understand that it is a serious subject.  We’ve had many complaints already regarding dogs out running around, and we also need to make sure and get the licenses up to date as well as that ensures everyone’s safety, not to mention that if your dog does happen to escape the property you own, we at least have a way of finding out who the owner is.
