Pirates lose 3 league games
The Prairie baseball team had a tough week losing all 3 games they played. On Tuesday, April 11 they lost to Lapwai 7-10 at Cottonwood. On Saturday, April 15 they were swept in a doubleheader at Potlatch 0-10 and 2-5.
Vs Lapwai
In their first home game Prairie faced Lapwai, who was fielding their first team since 2002. Lapwai jumped out to a 0-3 lead on Brandon Anderson thanks to 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 errors.Sam Mager catches a foul popup in the Lapwai game.
Prairie was able to put Lapwai out in order in the second inning and got on the scoreboard in their half of the second. Owen Anderson reached on an error to start the inning, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Sam Mager drew a walk. A wild pitch scored Owen Anderson with Mager going to third. Spencer Schumacher drew a walk and stole second. After a pair of strikeouts, Brandon Anderson singled down the third base line to score Mager.
Neither team scored in the third inning but Lapwai put together a 2-out rally in the fourth. Catcher Sam Mager recorded the first out of the inning by making a great diving catch on a short foul pop-up. The next batter struck out but consecutive errors put the next two batters on and a walk loaded the bases. A 2-run single followed and another error allowed a third run to score giving Lapwai a 2-6 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth Schumacher drew a leadoff walk and went to third on an errant pickoff attempt. He scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 3-6.
Lapwai added another run in the fifth on a pair of singles.
Jace Perrin went to the mound in the sixth and gave up a pair of runs on 2 singles, an error and a bases loaded walk that made it 3-9.
In the bottom of the sixth Carson Forsman hit a pinch-hit single to right and went to second on a wild pitch. He scored on Brandon Anderson’s double to left. Luke Schwartz was walked and Perrin hit by a pitch to load the bases but the rally died on a strikeout and comebacker to the pitcher.
Lapwai added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a pair of singles.
In the bottom half Prairie started a rally as Sam Mager was hit by a pitch leading off the inning. Forsman singled to right but then was forced at second by Damian Forsmann. A wild pitch scored Mager and then Brandon Anderson beat out an infield single. Luke Schwartz singled to left to scored Forsmann and Perrin singled to left to score Anderson.  The rallied died and the game ended as Nick Mager to third where Luke Schwartz was forced out.
Prairie had 9 hits in the game with Brandon Anderson collecting 3 singles and a double and 2 RBI. Forsman had a pair of singles while Luke Schwartz, Perrin and Nick Mager each had a single. Schwartz and Perrin each also had an RBI.
Anderson gave up 7 runs in 5 innings on 7 hits with 3 walks, 1 hit batsman and 5 strikeouts. Perrin gave up 3 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeouts in 2 innings of work.

1st game at Potlatch
The doubleheader at Potlatch was originally scheduled for Prairie but the field was too wet at Cottonwood.
Potlatch dominated the opening game as Prairie managed just 1 hit, a single by Nick Mager, while the Loggers had 11 hits and scored in 5 of the six innings played. They ended the game in the bottom of the sixth on the 10-run rule.
Sam Mager pitched the first 3 innings and Perrin pitched the final 3.

2nd game at Potlatch
In the second game against Potlatch Schumacher started on the mound and had a no-hitter through the first 5 innings.
Prairie meanwhile had a scored a run each in the first 2 innings for a 2-0 lead going into the sixth.
In the sixth inning Potlatch finally got to Schumacher who was running up against the pitch count limit and gave up 3 runs. Brandon Anderson took over in the sixth and gave up 2 more runs in the seventh as Potlatch pulled out the win.
