Jon Rehder hired as new principal
Prairie High School graduate Jon Rehder was approved for hire as the new Prairie Jr./Sr. High School principal at the April meeting of the school board Monday, April 17. Rehder has been working the past several years at schools in the Boise area.
Julie (Mrs. Greg) Schumacher was approved for hire as the new second grade teacher. She will be the fourth Mrs. Schumacher in the district and the second Julie Schumacher. She has been teaching in the Mountain View School District at Grangeville.
The board also accepted the resignation of Tim Sheffler as assistant high school girls basketball coach. Carrie Nygaard said they have 3 applicants so far for the position but have yet to schedule interviews.
The board approved going out for bids for the rubberized track surface. 
An activity fee of $25 for junior high students was approved. This would go toward paying for new uniforms and equipment for junior high teams. 
A motion was approved to offer teacher contracts if the levy passes.
Section 7 of the policy manual was approved with the suggested changes. Section 8 of the policy manual is next up.
Bus depreciation money from the state was approved for transfer from the general fund to the bus fund.
Declarations of candidacy were approved for Aaron Hinkelman in Zone 1; Tara Rowland in Zone 2 and Pat Alfrey in Zone 5. At this point they are the only candidates and if so, will be declared elected.
A memo of understanding was approved that would allow Christine Frei of CEDA to act as liaison for the school district regarding the old Elementary building.
In the facilities update Forsmann said they are removing the safety fencing from the projects list. To do it write they would have to remove all the current fence.
The bathroom updates at the football field house are mostly finished. The water issue is being addressed with gutters. 
The old shed has been removed from the concrete pad where Jake Forsmann’s shop was at in preparation for a new storage building.
The rest of the projects are targeted to be done this summer. 
In administrative reports Forsmann said she is working on class lists at the Elementary for next year and those should be available by May 1.
Missoula Children’s Theatre was another success and plans are to have the program again next year.
Elementary parent-teacher conferences were very well attended with 90% attendance.
Enrollment is down about 10 students from September.
Kindergarten screening is coming up and they are estimating 27-30 children for next year’s Kindergarten.
In her superintendent’s report Forsmann reported she attended the emergency drill held at Genesee on April 1 and said one could only hope that they would never have anything like that in real life. 
Nygaard reported on the school being informed that PHS has the highest percentage of students participating in Fast Forward/Advanced Opportunities of any public school in the state.
She also reported that the junior-senior banquet, mother-daughter tea, 7th grade “Trip to Somewhere,” Showcase Night and FFA banquet all went well.
On Monday, April 17 some of the juniors and seniors traveled to a career day held at St. Mary’s Hospital, Advanced Welding, Pacific Cabinets, Militec and Primeland.
The FFA is expanding to the junior high level and they have an opportunity to take 6 students to Bonners Ferry for a junior high competition on May 10-11. This was approved by motion of the board.
The meeting adjourned at 6:33 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, May 15 with the start time moved to 7 p.m.
