Educational Expereince set for Kooskia
The Back Country Horsemen of North Central Idaho will be sponsoring an Equine Educational Experience which include a day of demonstrations, skill tests and children's horse rides. Technical classes as well as fun ones are all included free of charge. It will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Kooskia Saddliers Arena on Highway 12 west (downriver) of Kooskia. Housecall Vet Dr. Kimberly Wollfrum graduated from WSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999 and previously worked locally for Dr. Virgil Frei and Dr. Phil Volkman for the past 15 years. She started her housecall practice in 2015 and travels an 80 to 100 mile radius. She works on dogs, cats, horses, pocket pets, some small ruminants. She will be demonstrating at 10:00 am how to evaluate for dental care. Chiropractic Physician Dr. Kim Bartholomew of Kamiah, Idaho will be sharing over 20 years of knowledge working with movement analysis and correction for horses and mules. Her demonstration will start at 11:00 am and will show attendees what to look for when suspecting your stock may be having movement or performance abnormalities. Shane Hendren started Lucky H Horseshoeing in March of 2001. Shane travels with his business all the way from Pomeroy, Washington to New Meadows, Idaho. He is eager to talk to the public about safety tips while tying, handling or shoeing horses or mules. He plans on shoeing the hind foot of a horse and a mule. His motto for his business is: Living It, Loving It and Still Lots to Learn From It. Don't miss his demonstration starting at 12:00 noon. Jim Renshaw, a lifetime resident of the Lochsa, Selway and Kooskia, Idaho vicinity is a retired outfitter and guide of more than 40 years. He worked in the NezPerce, Clearwater National Forests and especially in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area before and after it became a designated wilderness. He will be presenting at 1:00 pm,. his way of handling, saddling and organizing items to be cargoed and packed on a horse or mule. Embellished with his stories of over 80 years of "going to the mountains:, Jim will be assisted by fellow BCH members, Larry Cooper and Steve Didier, and quite possibly by some of the events's attendees. On site vendors will be Rocking JB Bags and Embroidery, Cheryl Geib who sells tack, clothing and boots, Chili and Cornbread which are compliments of the BCH will be served dutch oven style by the Tahoe Hillbillies 4-H Club. Concessions will be available by the Kooskia Saddliers. Cross cut sawing with hands on experience and children's horse rides round out the day packed full of freely shared knowledge by BCH members.
