Baseball starts May 9
The District Baseball tournament will take place starting May 9 with a pair of play-in games. Only the top six teams make it to District and Prairie has clinched a spot since they were 4 games ahead of the 7th place team with 3 to play. The #3 seed will host the #6 seed and #4 will host #5 on May 9 at 4:30 p.m. The winners will clinch a trip to State and move on to the bracketed portion of the tournament May 12-13 at Orofino to determine state seeding. It appears Prairie will get to host their play-in game against either Kendrick or C.V. depending on how the game Monday against Lapwai turns out. Prairie is currently 7-6 in the standings while Kendrick in fifth is 6-8 and are done with league play. C.V. in 6th has 7 losses already with a game against Nezperce and 2 against league champion Genesee. The first place team will get a first round bye at state which will have 6 teams for the first time ever in the 1A tournament. Game times will be 1 and 3:30 p.m. on May 12 and 9 a.m. Saturday for the third place game and 11:30 a.m. for the championship game. The State Tournament will also be at Orofino on May 19-20 with our 2nd and 4th place teams playing in the first round and the 3rd place team facing the District 3 runner-up. District Softball starts May 11 The District Softball Tournament will get underway next Thursday, May 11 with 4 play-in games at the higher seeds home fields. All games are set to start at 4:30 p.m. Prairie is currently in first place but still has 3 league games to play, 2 against fifth place Kendrick and 1 against 3rd place Genesee. The 4 survivors will then advance to the bracketed portion of the tournament at Orofino on Saturday, May 13. There will be two games played at 11 a.m. The two winners play for first and second at 1 p.m. while the two losers also play at 1 p.m. for third place and a trip to state. The state tournament will be at Lewiston’s Airport Park on May 19-20. |
