Flamenco Night at Winchester State Park
On Saturday, July 15, 8:30 p.m. the Winchester Lake State Park will host a night of flamenco music and dance that features recipients of the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program offered by the Idaho Commission on the Arts. The performance is free and open to the public.
Estefanía Sanchez and her apprentice, Amalia Romero, will demonstrate work accomplished during the last year with assistance from a grant provided through the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program. The two worked on several dances borne and steeped in the flamenco culture and heritage of Southern Spain. The Boise-based flamenco group, Shimi Tree, will accompany the dancers with live music and commentary.
The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program is an annual grant awarded through the Folk & Traditional Arts Program at the Idaho Commission on the Arts. The grant supports folk art masters who pass knowledge and skills to apprentices. The program cultivates a learning partnership between a recognized master artist and one or more qualified apprentices to continue artistic traditions of a shared cultural heritage.
