'Chieftain' to be performed this Friday and Saturday
"My Chieftain Faðir said to me: 'My son, you must be strong.
The world is yours; where're you are, it's there that you belong.'"
With this verse, young Bjorn assumes his destiny as chieftain of his village after the tragic death of his father.  Bjorn is the best of Vikings, but he realizes that there is so much more to be had than the life that he was given.  His questions begin with a priest, then with long relationships broken, then with a battle not only for his life, his village, and everything he holds dear, but also for his soul and the souls of all under his rule.
The tale takes place circa 1000 A.D. on the magical island of Iceland: a land of fire, a land of ice; a land of green, a land of white; a land where the sun never sets and never rises; a land where the aurora light up the sky, as if heaven itself were in sight.  The tale interweaves the stories of several young people as they proceed down the path of life and down the path of conversion to the true Faith of Catholicism.  They learn the true meaning of sacrifice, the true meaning of friendship, the true meaning of love.  They are taught by the priest and shown by the power of God that they have many "hidden helpers" standing closer than they can even see, aiding them upon the way, "for God has given His angels concerning us; that they might keep us in all of our ways."
This story was written to have something for everyone: action, singing, humor, romance.  It is an original script with three original songs written by Michael Hattrup.  The cast is mostly homeschoolers from Nezperce, Cottonwood, and Grangeville, so please come and support the young local talent!  The level of performance is guaranteed to impress all!
The four performances will be Friday August 11th at 6:30pm, Saturday August 12th at 6:30pm, and Sunday August 13th at 1:00pm and 6:30pm in the Summit Academy Gymnasium (122 Substation Rd. Cottonwood).  There is no admission cost, so please come and enjoy the show!  We would love to have you!  Donations will be gratefully accepted to cover production costs.
