Wallace looked to take the early lead as they successfully executed an onside kick to open the game and wound up taking the ball on their own 43.
An 18 yard pass play and a 27 yard run set up a first and goal at the 5. With the help of a holding penalty the defense stopped Wallace on the 1 on fourth down.
On their first play after taking possession Jake Stubbers sprinted 41 yards to the Prairie 42. He picked up 3 on the next play and then Caleb McWilliams burst through the middle and went 55 yards for a Prairie touchdown. The Pirates needed just 3 plays to go 99 yards. The 2-point try failed leaving Prairie with a 6-0 lead. The first time since the Council game that they had scored first.
Prairie then got the ball right back on an interception by Hunter Chaffee, taking over at the Wallace 26.
Three plays later Stubbers scored from the 11 to put Prairie up 12-0 as the 2-point try came up short.
Wallace answered back by going to the passing game. They completed 3 of 4 pass attempts with gains of 38, 12 and 43 yards to cover 88 yards in 5 plays. The 43 yarder went for the touchdown to cut the lead to 12-6.
Wallace then tried another onside kick with Owen Anderson recovering at the Prairie 49.
Two plays later Prairie tried to pass for the first time in the game and disaster struck. Damian Forsmann completed a screen pass to Stubbers who got the ball knocked loose at the line of scrimmage. Wallace’s Layton Gallagher scooped up the ball and went 49 yards for the tying touchdown. Wallace then added the 2-point conversion to take their first lead of the game at 12-14.
Wallace didn’t go with an onside kick this time and Nick Mager returned the kick 11 yards to the Prairie 45.
Prairie went to the ground game for 8 straight plays but faced a fourth and 8 at the Wallace 23. Forsmann completed a pass to Chaffee for 18 yards to set up first and goal at the 5. On the next play Stubbers scored his second touchdown to put Prairie back on top 18-14.
Wallace nearly scored again on the ensuing kickoff as Gallagher got credit for a 57 yard return that was partly nullified by a holding penalty that set them back to the Prairie 39.
Two plays later Chaffee made his second interception at the Prairie 10.
The Pirates had to punt with Wallace taking over at the Prairie 31.
A false start penalty set them back and Prairie wound up taking over on downs at their own 23.
A 25 yard pass from Forsmann to Chaffee put the Pirates into Miner territory at the 46. Stubbers ran the ball 4 times for a total of 36 yards to put the ball on the 10. McWilliams carried the ball into the end zone on the next play for a 26-14 lead as Forsmann passed to Anderson for Prairie’s first successful 2-point try.
Wallace had to punt on their next possession but Prairie gave the ball right back on an interception.
3 plays later Prairie got the ball back when Anderson made an interception at the Wallace 45. Forsmann passed to Anderson for 45 yards and a touchdown on the next play.
Chaffee’s onside kickoff was recovered by Wallace at the Prairie 49. A holding penalty set the Loggers back and they wound up turning the ball over on downs with 24 seconds left on the clock.
After 2 incomplete passes, Forsmann pass to Chaffee for 27 yards to the Wallace 25. A personal foul penalty on top of that moved the ball to the 10. Forsmann then pass to Chaffee for the touchdown as the half ended. Forsmann again pass to Chaffee for the 2-pointer to make it 40-14 at the half.
Wallace received the second half kickoff and wound up turning the ball over on downs at their own 30 as a fourth down pass was deflected by Mager.
Forsmann converted a fourth down and 8 with a 9 yard run to the Wallace 19. Stubbers picked up 11 yards on 2 carries to set up first and goal at the 8. After a 2 yard gain by Forsmann, Stubbers carried the ball 6 yards into the end zone to make it 46-14 as the 2-point try failed.
Wallace took over at their own 18 after the kickoff and the defense sacked Wallace’s quarterback on successive plays. Forsmann then passed to Mager for the 2-pointer that gave Prairie a 40-point lead and invoked the running clock mercy rule.
Wallace turned the ball back to Prairie on downs at the Prairie 44 after an incomplete pass on 4th down.
Huling got the chance to run the ball, carrying it for 18 yards and then 22 yards as the third quarter ended.
Hayden Uhlenkott picked up 4 yards on the first play of the fourth quarter and Cole Martin followed with a 12 yard run for a touchdown. The 2-point try failed and Prairie now led 60-14.
An interception by Martin gave Prairie the ball back at their own 5 yard line.
A 10 yard run by Uhlenkott moved the ball to the 20. Martin gained 7 yards on 2 carries to the 27. On the next play Martin got the corner and raced 73 yards to his second touchdown of the game. That made it 66-14 as Mager’s attempt to kick the extra point failed.
