Board meets
The school board met Monday, October 16 for their regular October meeting. Board members discussed several of the resolutions coming up for a vote at the Idaho School Board Association meeting. The was some discussion on unpaid meal charges at the schools. The board will be looking for community input on the matter. Safety busing was approved for two stops in town to shuttle students to the schools. In the facilities update Rene’ Forsmann reported abatement of the old Elementary will be done in early November. She has also contacted an appraiser out of Lewiston. Cost would be $7500 but they would like to wait until the abatement process has been completed. In administrative reports Forsmann said that after looking into the enrollment data, they will need to add a 6th grade classroom next year. They are looking at the computer lab to be that room and would look at rearranging the library to add about 15 computers. They are continuing to look at options for the Center for Discovery. Chandra Eimers is working on a new grant as the current one runs out June 2018. Re-keying of the schools should be complete by the end of October. As stated at earlier meetings they will be going to an electronic fob system. The annual lottery ticket scratch will be Oct. 24. Denise Uhlenkott, Forsmann and Sherry Holthaus will be the scratchers. Students in grades 5 and 6 attend the McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS) on Oct. 4-6. 4 of the students will attend a County Commissioner meeting to explain their trip and thank the commissioners for sponsoring them. Parent-teacher conferences are Nov. 1-2. Red Ribbon Week will be Oct. 23-27. A committee has been put together to develop next year’s school calendar. Jon Rehder reported 66 of the parent surveys were completed for the accreditation process. 100% of teacher surveys were completed and 96% of student surveys. Homecoming was a success with the student body very involved all week. He said he received a lot of feedback on the daily picture sharing and felt the concrete barriers turned out awesome. The juniors and seniors attended the IdaLew Career Fair at the Fairgrounds on Thursday, Oct. 12. He reported Friday’s football game with Potlatch has been cancelled due to a lack of healthy bodies on Potlatch’s team. The board adjourned to an executive session at 7:08 p.m. The next regular meeting of the board will be Monday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. |
