turned out for boys basketball
There are 17 players turned out for the Prairie Boys Basketball team with just 2 of those being returning starters from last year’s state runner-up team. The two returners are senior Hunter Chaffee and junior Spencer Schumacher. Nick Mager, who was on the team for awhile last season, will be the only other senior this season. Other varsity regulars will be juniors Dylan Schumacher, who’s out for at least a couple more weeks after breaking his collarbone during football season, and Devin Ross. Sophomores on the varsity will be Derik Shears, out until late December with an ankle injury, and Damian Forsmann. Varsity-JV swing players will be junior Tanner Hibbard and Taylor Ott and sophomores Sam Mager, Owen Anderson and Hayden Uhlenkott. JV only players at this point will be exchange student and junior Guilheime Acciardi, sophomore David Wassmuth and freshmen Cole Schlader, Tyler Wemhoff and John Gehring. Returning head coach Kevin Chaffee says they’ve got good size and feels they should be in the mix for the second spot to State. He says Lapwai will be the team to beat again with Potlatch, Prairie and Genesee vying for the other state spot, Kamiah, Troy and C.V. all could be competitive as well. New to the coaching staff is JV coach Gavin Branson, who was the point guard for last year’s state runner-up. He replaces Seth Guyer, who had other commitments this year that kept him from coaching. Prairie’s first game is Thursday at Grangeville.
