St. Mary's Hospital Foundation-the Spirit of Giving
It’s been a busy past few years for St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, and with some upcoming changes on the horizon, it’s a great time to take a look back…and forward! The SMH Foundation is tasked with raising funds and awareness for critical hospital projects and services, and to assist in meeting the hospital’s financial challenges. The Board has seen a lot of success in meeting that mission in recent years, and is also looking ahead to future growth.
“The SMH Foundation Board, with community support, has helped to accomplish some big things,” said Morris Arnzen, Chairman. “Through various fundraising efforts like the annual Mardi Gras event, Golf 4 Life tournament, and generous donations from the community, the SMH Foundation has been able to provide, just in the past 3 years, approximately $400,000.00 for critical hospital improvements. In 2016 the hospital had to replace its 50 year old heating system and the SMH Foundation was able to step in and help get the project done quickly and efficiently.  Additionally, the new system is providing a substantial annual cost savings to the hospital. In 2017 a newly renovated shower room was completed and provides a safe, comfortable, and much more accessible environment for our patients. Currently a fire safety sprinkler system is being installed. Not only will this make SMH a safer facility, it also will allow for expansion to the Emergency Room and Lab areas, among others, that weren’t able to be done until this happened.”
“We have some changes on the horizon for 2018,” says Kim Johnson, Foundation Director. “As in any volunteer organization, membership changes with family commitments, work, and other factors. We are actively seeking volunteers to fill vacancies and help us continue doing great things for our hospital and the communities we serve.”
