Pirates are 1-1 on the week
The Prairie Pirates split a pair of league road games this past week. On Thursday, Jan. 18 they were upset at Kamiah 29-31 after beating the Kubs by 21 earlier in the season. They bounced back with a 63-44 win at Troy Saturday, Jan. 20.
At Kamiah
In the game at Kamiah Prairie led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter but Kamiah came back in the second to take a 17-18 lead at the half.
Prairie took the lead back in the third as they took a 25-20 lead into the fourth period.
Kamiah led by 2 late in the game when Hunter Chaffee sank a 3-pointer with 45 seconds to play to give Prairie a 29-28 lead. Kamiah answered back though with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer of their own for the win.
The Kubs apparently slowed the pace down to a crawl in the game and kept the Pirates from getting out in transition by taking care of the ball.
Chaffee wound up with 13 points to lead the Pirates in scoring. Spencer Schumacher added 6 points with Devin Ross and Nick Mager scoring 4 each. Damian Forsmann added 2 points.
Prairie won easily in the JV game by a score of 60-26.

At Troy
Troy took a 4-5 lead early in the game at Troy but Prairie finished the opening quarter with a 7-0 run to take an 11-5 lead. Chaffee scored 6 first quarter points while Mager converted a 3-point play.
Devin Ross got hot in the second quarter as he went 4 for 4 from 3-point range.Devin Ross sinks his fourth 3-pointer of the second quarter just before halftime.
His first 3 came after Troy had tied the score at 13 and put Prairie into the lead for good. Chaffee followed with an inside basket and Ross then hit his second 3 to make it 21-13.
Troy scored a pair of free throws but Ross then picked up his third 3 on an inside out pass from the post by Spencer Schumacher.
A basket by Chaffee inside, 2 free throws by Spencer Schumacher and Ross’ fourth 3 of the quarter gave the Pirates a 31-17 halftime lead.
It helped the Pirates that Troy’s best player, Isaac Stoner, who scored 8 of their 17 first half points, got into foul trouble and missed much of the second quarter.
Prairie stated the third quarter with a 7-0 run as Spencer Schumacher and Mager each scored a basket and Chaffee connected on his only 3 of the game.
Troy answered with a 0-7 run of their own to get back within 14 but they still trailed by 14 entering the fourth quarter at 40-26.
Troy twice got within 13 in the fourth quarter, the second time at 43-30. Prairie then answered with 2 free throws each by Chafee and Ross and a basket each by Mager and Dylan Schumacher for a 51-30 lead with 4:31 to play.
With 3:08 Stoner fouled out and took his team leading 18 points to the bench. Troy was down 21 at that point. 
The Trojans got within 16 after a 1-9 rally where Prairie was more about running clock offensively than scoring, but there were only 28 seconds left by that point.
Chaffee wound up with 23 points to lead all scorers. He went 10 for 10 at the free throw line in the game while Troy’s Stoner was 9 for 9 at the line.
Ross was also in double figures with 16 points. Mager and Spencer Schumacher scored 7 each with Dylan Schumacher adding 4. Taylor Ott scored 3 with Derik Shears scoring 2 and Tanner Hibbard 1.
Prairie had a 27-22 rebounding edge led by Spencer Schumacher with 8 with Ross adding 6 rebounds.
Chaffee and Dylan Schumacher each had 2 steals and Chaffee had 6 assists while Ross had 4.
Prairie was 20 for 44 from the field, 45%, and 17 for 23 at the line, 74%. Troy was 11 for 32 from the field, 34%, and 17 for 21 at the line, 81%.
Prairie is now 9-3 on the season and 6-2 in league play.
The JV team won by a score of 59-25.
An 8-0 run in the first quarter broke open a close game as Prairie took a 15-7 lead into the second quarter. Sam Mager and Derik Shears each scored 4 points in the opening quarter while Taylor Ott scored 3.
Prairie opened the second quarter with a 15-2 run to blow up the lead to 21 points at 30-9. Ott and Cole Schlader each scored 7 in the quarter as Prairie took a 35-13 lead by halftime.
Ott stayed hot in the third quarter as Prairie started the second half with a 12-0 run with Ott scoring 6 of those points. 
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock as Prairie took a 51-15 lead into the final frame.
Ott wound up with 16 points to lead the scoring while Mager scored 10. Schlader scored 9, Shears 8, John Gehring 5, Tanner Hibbard 3 and Owen Anderson, Hayden Uhlenkott, Tyler Wemhoff and David Wassmuth 2 each.
Troy had a 21-24 edge on the boards. Ott led the Pirates with 7 rebounds. 
Ott also led in steals with 3 with Schlader having 3 assists.
The JV’s were 23 for 53 from the field, 43%, and 10 for 13 at the line, 77%. Troy was 10 for 24 for the field, 42%, and 5 for 8 at the line, 63%.
