Pirates shut out C.V.
Three pitchers combined to pitch a 1-hit shutout in the Prairie baseball team’s season opener as they won 10-0 over Clearwater Valley at Kooskia Tuesday, March 13.

Tate Berdoy opened the game on the mound and gave up 2 hits and 1 hit batter with 4 strikeouts in 2 innings. Jace Perrin also pitched 2 innings and allowed 2 walks with 3 strikeouts. Spencer Schumacher pitched the final 3 innings and gave up 1 hit and 1 walk with 8 strikeouts.
On the offensive side Prairie scored the only run they needed in the first inning. With 2 outs Prairie had Dereck Arnzen on first by way of a fielder’s choice. Schumacher singled to right and Owen Anderson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Schumacher took a huge lead off second and was almost halfway to third when he finally drew a throw. Arnzen took off from third and barreled into the catcher, who was about 6 feet up the baseline. The ball came loose and Arnzen was able to touch home plate before he could be tagged out.
In the third inning Prairie put 4 runs on the board. Schumacher was hit by a pitch with 1 out. Anderson was again hit by a pitch and Seubert singled to right to load the bases. Berdoy doubled to the gap in left center to score 2 runs. Luke Schwartz walked to reload the bases. Perrin, pinch-running for Seubert, scored on an infield single by Nick Mager. Schwartz then scored from third on Sam Mager’s grounder up the first base line.
Prairie had a 2-out rally in the fourth inning. Anderson reached on a 2-out walk and stole second. He scored on Perrin’s double to left center. Perrin then stole third and scored when the catcher’s throw got past the third baseman. That made it 7-0 after 4 innings.
In the sixth Schumacher led off with a double and Lane Remacle went in as a courtesy runner. Anderson’s single to left sent Remacle to third and he scored on Perrin’s sacrifice fly to right.
Prairie added 2 more runs in the top of the seventh. Sam Mager reached on an error and stole second. Dalton Ross beat out a bunt single as Mager went to third. Ross then stole second. Mager scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Arnzen and Ross scored on Schumacher’s single to right.
Schumacher wound up with a double and 2 singles and an RBI. Anderson had 2 singles and reached base 5 times as he was hit twice and walked once. Perrin had a double and 2 RBI while Berdoy had a double and an RBI. Nick Mager had a single and an RBI. Seubert, Ross and Carson Forsman each had a single and Arnzen had an RBI.
