Pirates split with Lapwai
Lapwai won the suspended game 6-9 while the Prairie baseball team won the second game 10-1 to earn a split with the Wildcats Tuesday, March 27 at Lewiston.
Rather than just get together at Lewiston for the 3 innings needed to complete the second game, the two schools rescheduled the Prairie home game set for April 19 so it would be worth the trip.
Suspended game
Prairie trailed 3-7 in the bottom of the fourth when the game originally scheduled for March 22 was stopped by rain.

Lapwai had 1 runner on and 2 outs in the bottom of the fourth when the game was resumed. Sam Mager got a strikeout to get out of that inning.
In the top of the fifth Spencer Schumacher was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Nick Mager singled but Lapwai got out of the inning on a double play.
Sam Mager set the side down in order in the fifth for Lapwai.
In the sixth Sam Mager hit a 1-out single to right but was forced at second by Owen Anderson. Anderson stole second and scored on a single down the left field line by Dalton Ross. Dereck Arnzen was hit by a pitch to put 2 on but Lapwai then got out of the inning.
Lapwai got to Sam Mager with a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth and an error and another single led to 2 more runs scoring for a 4-9 Lapwai lead. Prairie got out of the inning when the next batter lined out to Arnzen at first who threw to Tate Berdoy at second to double off the runner.
In the seventh Jace Perrin led off with a double and went to third on a wild pitch. After an out Berdoy walk and stole second. Luke Schwartz hit a grounder to second that was misplayed for an error as both runners scored to cut the deficit to 6-9. Sam Mager walked to bring the tying run to the plate but a lineout and an forceout ended the game.
Prairie had 8 hits with Perrin leading the attack with a double and a single and an RBI. Ross and Nick Mager each had 2 singles and an RBI. Arnzen and Sam Mager each added a single.
Arnzen pitched the first two inning allowing 7 runs on 3 hits with 3 walks, a hit batsman and 2 strikeouts. Sam Mager pitched the final 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts.

2nd Game
In the second game Anderson and Schumacher combined to allow just 1 run on 2 hits to the Wildcats while the Pirates pounded out 10 hits and scored 10 runs against 2 Wildcats pitchers.
Anderson started the game and set Lapwai down in order.
In the bottom of the first Lapwai didn’t retire a single batter as Prairie had some questionable baserunner with all 3 outs being recorded at third base. 
Anderson gave up a run in the second on a walk and a single.

He then went to second a balk and to third on a wild pitch. Perrin worked a walk and went to second on wild pitch with Anderson having to hold at third. Michael Schwartz executed a perfect bunt base hit to score Anderson. Perrin and Schwartz pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third. Nick Mager grounded to short with Perrin scoring to make it 2-1.
Schumacher took over on the mound in the third and had 3 strikeouts and a walk. 
In their half of the third Prairie added 2 more runs. Arnzen singled up the middle and Schumacher was hit by a pitch. Berdoy walked on 4 pitches to load the bases. Anderson singled home Arnzen and Schumacher scored when Perrin hit a grounder to short for a forceout.
In the fourth Schumacher had a strikeout then hit a batter. He then picked off the runner and recorded another strikeout to end the inning.
Prairie put 5 runs on the board in the 4th inning. Sam Mager singled down the first base line with 1 out. Ross and Arnzen walked to load the bases. Schumacher singled to right to score 2 runs and Berdoy doubled to right to score Arnzen. 
At that point Lapwai changed pitchers. Anderson was walked then Perrin singled to score both Luke Schwartz, who was courtesy running for Schumacher, and Berdoy to make it 9-1.
In the fifth Schumacher walked the leadoff hitter then struck out the next 2 batters and induced a popup to catcher Sam Mager to get out of the inning.
Prairie went out in order in their half of the fifth.
Schumacher gave up a single and a walk in the sixth but then got a pair of fly outs to right to get out of the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth Schumacher was hit by a pitch for the third time in the game and the fourth time on the day. Luke Schwartz again went in as a courtesy runner. Berdoy beat out an infield single and Anderson singled to short left field to load the bases. After a second out, Michael Schwartz was walked to force home his brother Luke to make it 10-1.
Schumacher struck out the side in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Anderson led the hitting attack with 3 singles and an RBI. Berdoy had a double and a single and an RBI. Perrin had a single and 3 RBI. Schumacher and Michael Schwartz each had a single and 2 RBI. Sam Mager and Arnzen each had a single. Nick Mager had an RBI.
Anderson pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Schumacher pitched the final 5 innings allowing no runs on 1 hit with 3 walks, 1 hit batsman and 11 strikeouts.
Prairie is now 2-1 on the season and in league play.
They have rescheduled the rained out doubleheader against Pomeroy and will play it Friday, April 6 at Pomeroy with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
