Soil Health workshop is held
The Lewis Soil Conservation District, Idaho Soil and Water Conservation District and the Clearwater Soil and Water Conservation District hosted the 5th Annual Soil Health Workshop February 13, 2018 in Ferdinand. The workshop would not have been such a success without the knowledge shared by Dr. Curt Livesay, Dynamite Ag, and Dr. Tarah Sullivan, WSU, about the impacts of acidity to microbial communities, plant nutrients and how nutrients are available in the soil and soil fertility.  Joey Carter, Idaho Department of Ag, informed the audience of the Worker Protection Standards. Terry Hoebelheinrich from Idaho Soil and Water Conservation Commission reported on the RCRDP loan program they offer with a single loan limit of $200,000 and $300,000 maximum for any individual borrower. Doug Finkelnburg, UI Extension, talking about the liming trials in the Winchester area.  Local producers Drew Mosman and Bill Flory shared their experiences with planting cover crops and using them for summer grazing.
Without the awesome support from Agri-Trend, Bell Equipment, Camas Prairie Insurance, CHS Primeland, CJ Air, Clearwater Seed, Columbia Grain, Cottonwood Federal Credit Union, Diesel and Machine INC., Harman Agency, Kuther Air Service, Nezperce Ag, Northwest Farm Credit Services, Pioneer Enterprises, Riggers Clearwater Farms JV, Seeds Inc., St John Hardware, and Simplot-Jacklin Seed, the workshop would not have been possible to bring in the motivational guest speakers and serve the delicious tasting luncheon prepared by the Assumption Parish ladies.
The Conservation Districts would like to give a big thank you to all who participated in one way or another making the workshop beneficial for the area producers, businesses and agency people.
