New volunteer police officer for Cottonwood
Cottonwood Police Department would like to introduce Officer Kevin Brown.  Kevin has agreed to volunteer (yes, donate) his time to assist CPD with patrol in our town.  Folks have asked why volunteer.  Two reasons; 1) he and his family love this area and want to do what they can to help out, and 2) this will help him maintain his Idaho Peace Officer Certifications, so everyone wins.
Kevin grew up in Coeur d' Alene, graduating from CHS in 1994.  He was an explorer with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office while in high school.  He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in January 1995, where he served for 20 years, retiring in 2015, earning multiple commendations including two Achievement medals, six Good Conduct medals, multiple letters of commendation, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary medal, several unit citations, Sea Service awards, two National Defense medals, and an expert rifle badge.
While in the Coast Guard he was stationed in Alaska, Louisiana, and Texas, working in Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement, Coastal Security, international security, anti-terrorism activities and drug enforcement.  He provided security operations during the Deepwater Horizon tragedy and did a 7 month tour at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He obtained his certification as a Military Police Officer while in the Coast Guard, following in the steps of his father, who retired as an Idaho State Police Trooper.
During his tenure in the Coast Guard he worked with many integrated support commands, resulting in attaining certification as an EMT as well as a fire fighter.
During much of his Coast Guard career Kevin also volunteered with the local communities where he was stationed, as a fire fighter and EMT.  In his final assignment he was the Operations Officer and Senior Law Enforcement Officer
Kevin attained his Idaho Peace Officer Standard and Training certification while employed by Idaho County Sheriff and developed a deep love for our area, resulting in him and his family moving to Cottonwood and buying a house to settle down and becoming a member of our community.
Kevin and his wife, Kathleen have six children, with two who still live with them in Cottonwood.
Kevin states “I have been in and around law enforcement my entire life.  I am a fair, dedicated professional.  I hope to continue to serve the community in a law enforcement capacity for years to come.  I would like to get more involved with drug interdiction, as I know there is a large influx of narcotics to the area.  This is a drain on our community.  I am also big on safety issues, such as detecting DUI drivers, reducing accidents by excessive speed and reducing the amount of distracted drivers in order to make our area safer for everyone.”
