Pirates beat Genesee, Lewis County
The Prairie baseball team picked up a pair of league wins this past week, knocking off Genesee 3-2 at Clarkston on Tuesday, April 17 and then finishing up a suspended game against Lewis County 13-1 Friday, April 20 at Cottonwood.
Vs. Genesee
The Genesee game on Tuesday was a pitchers duel between Prairie’s Spencer Schumacher and Genesee’s Kolby Moser.
Genesee got to Schumacher for 2 runs in the second inning, but that was all Schumacher gave up.
Prairie came back with a run in the fourth and then took the lead with 2 in the sixth.
In the sixth, Dalton Ross executed a sacrifice bunt to move runners up to second and third and Schumacher then doubled both home to give Prairie the lead.
After 6 innings Schumacher ran up against the pitch count limit and Tate Berdoy came on to pitch the bottom of the seventh. Berdoy ran into some trouble as Genesee had the bases loaded with 2 outs before Bedoy induced a grounder to short that ended the game.
Prairie had 3 hits in the game off Moser, a double and a single by Schumacher and a single by Sam Mager.
Schumacher and Berdoy combined to allowed 4 hits.

Vs. Lewis County
Ten days after it started the Prairie Pirates were finally able to complete the doubleheader sweep of Lewis County with a 13-1 win.
The game started at Kooskia on Tuesday, April 10 and was suspended by rain in the bottom of the fourth inning with Prairie ahead 12-0.
The game picked up on Friday, April 20 with a 1-1 count on the Lewis County batter who led off the bottom of the fourth inning.
Pitcher Dalton Ross, who had started the inning 10 days earlier, wound up hitting that batter. He got the next batter to hit a grounder to short for a forceout. Two more hit batters and a walk and it was obvious Ross had trouble finding the strikezone as he forced in a run. Berdoy then came on to pitch and got a strikeout and a grounder to first to get out of the inning.
Owen Anderson led off for Prairie in the fifth and drew a leadoff walk. He stole second, went to third on Michael Seubert’s flyball out to right and scored on Nick Mager’s single up the middle to make it 13-1.
In the bottom of the fifth Berdoy finished off the game with 2 strikeouts and a groundout to Seubert at third base. Seubert’s throw to first beat the runner to end the game.
For the game Conner Schwartz pitched the first 3 innings and allowed no runs on just 1 hit with 2 walks, 1 hit batsman and 6 strikeouts. Ross pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 1 run on no hits with 3 hit batsmen and a walk. Berdoy pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed no runs and no hits with 3 strikeouts.
Prairie had 6 hits in the game led by Nick Mager with 2 singles and an RBI. Dereck Arnzen also had 2 singles. Owen Anderson had a single and an RBI while Berdoy also had a single. Spencer Schumacher had no hits but had 2 RBI.
Prairie is now 7-4 overall and 7-1 in league play.
Prairie and Lewis County played a JV game after the completion of the suspended game and Prairie won 23-6.
